Traffic Control Measures Implemented for 2020 Taipei New Year's Eve Party

Map of areas affected by traffic control around city hall on New Year’s Eve Taipei City Government will be hosting the 2020 Taipei New Year's Eve Party between 18:30 on December 31 and 01:00 on January 1 at the Taipei City Hall Plaza. The event is expected to draw a crowd of several hundred thousand citizens.

To maintain traffic order and safety during the event, the Taipei City Police Department will be coordinating with the organizer to implement the following traffic control measures:
One:Stage construction and disassembling:

(1)
Five lanes on the east side of City Hall Road will be closed (road section between Songshou Road and Songgao Road) from 09:00 on 12/23 (Monday) until 12:00 on 12/25 (Wednesday).
(2)
Five lanes on the east side of City Hall Road (road section between Songshou Road and Songgao Road) and New Renai Road will be closed from 12:00 on 12/25 (Wednesday) until 01:00 on 12/27 (Friday).
(3)
City Hall Road (road section between Songshou Road and Songgao Road) and New Renai Road will be closed from 01:00 on 12/27 (Friday) until 07:00 on 2020/1/2 (Thursday).
Two:Three-stage traffic control measures will be implemented on the day of the New Year's Eve party (12/31):
(1)
Stage 1: Vehicles will only be allowed to exit the area west of Songren Road, south of Zhongxiao East Road, north of Xinyi Road, east of Keelung Road and Yixian Road during 19:00-20:00 on 12/31. No vehicles will be permitted to enter the said area.
(2)
Stage 2: In addition to the traffic control area enforced in stage 1, areas east of Yixian Road and Renai Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic during 20:00-22:00 on 12/31.
(3)
Stage 3: Areas east of Guangfu South Road, south of Zhongxiao East Road, north of Xinyi Road and Zhuangjing Road, west of Lane 236, Section 5 of Zhongxiao East Road, Songde Road, and Songren Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 22:00 on 12/31 to 03:00 on 2020/1/1. The scope of the traffic control area will be adjusted depending on the crowd size.
(4)
In response to the aforementioned traffic control measures, the following traffic control measures will be implemented along the following viaducts starting 22:00 on 12/31:
1.
Keelung Viaduct: Traffic control will be implemented at the Keelung Road-Leye Road interchange, vehicles must exit the Keelung-Dunhua interchange in advance.
2.
Huandong/Tiding Boulevard: Traffic control will be implemented at the Keelung Road interchange; vehicles must divert to the west at Chengchi Bridge and take the Civic Boulevard Viaduct.
3.
Xinyi Expressway: Traffic control will be implemented at the Xinyi Road-Songde Road intersection, vehicles may exit the city via Xinyi Expressway. Vehicles entering the city can only make a right turn into Songde Road from Xinyi Road; turning left into City Hall Road is prohibited.
4.
Civic Boulevard: Vehicles eastbound exiting Civic-Guangfu interchange are prohibited from turning right into Guangfu South Road from the Civic Boulevard-Guangfu South Road intersection.
Taipei City Police Department urges drivers to avoid the controlled regions during peak traffic hours on the day of the event (December 31); eastbound and westbound traffic is advised to take a detour along Minquan East (West) Road, Nanjing East (West) Road, Bade Road, Civic Boulevard or Heping East (West) Road. Southbound and northbound traffic is advised to take a detour along Jianguo South (North) Road, Fuxing South (North) Road, Dunhua South (North) Road, Tayou Road or Songshan Road. Please obey the instructions of police officers and volunteer traffic controllers at intersections. For traffic information, please tune in to Police Broadcasting Service. Moreover, due to the limited availability of parking spaces in the vicinity, all parking lots and roadside parking spaces inside the controlled regions will be restricted.

The agency appeals to citizens intending to attend the New Year's Eve party to make use of public transport such as bus and MRT (MRT Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall Station, Taipei City Hall Station, Xiangshan Station, Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station). Additionally, they can also utilize 3 convenient shuttle bus services to go home (towards MRT Taipei Main Station, Gongguan Station, and Muzha/Jingmei area) to save time.
