[Level 3 COVID Alert] Taipei Leads Direct-rule Municipalities in Vaccination Rate
During the pandemic update press conference on July 7, Mayor Ko Wen-je mentioned the statistics related to weekly new cases. With the help of science and technology, the city government has been tracking the spread of COVID-19 across local districts. It also conducted a large-scale PCR testing for 20,000 people which successfully identified more hidden cases in the community.
On the issue of vaccination, he pointed out that the fourth round of vaccination sign-up was slated for July 2 through 6, attracting 82,658 people. A total of 76,776 individuals have been inoculated, showing that 92.9% of those who signed up actually received a shot. As of today, 403,292 people have been vaccinated in Taipei City, which comprises 15.6% of the local population.
Since vaccination is the ultimate answer to COVID-19, the city government decided to go ahead with immunization sessions targeting wholesale and traditional markets in town. The first wave of the vaccine drive will cover 30 public markets, 37 open-air markets/night markets, and 2 private markets. As of today, it has administered shots to 2,109 people related to the aforementioned facilities.
Ko also announced that the second wave of PCR screening for Huannan Market will take place on July 8 with the help of the staff from Far Eastern Memorial Hospital.
