Bids Starting at NT$1 – A Wide Range of Products Up for Grabs
According to Nanmen Market Cooperative Association President Wang Chuan-kuo, stalls in Nanmen Market will kick off a series of tantalizing offers on the last 3 days prior to the market’s relocation (October 4-6). These include Kuaiche (buy 2 identical products valued above NT$200 and receive a 40% discount on the second item); Lungji Food (discounted price of NT$700 for whole chicken products); and Lijia (buy 5 get 1 free). Various well-known stalls at Nanmen Market have offered their products that are bundled together for the NT$1 auction. These include Hoshin (pastry combo) and Wan You Quan (cured meat gift set). In particular, the owner of Chinyu Jewelry & Jade Hsu Jui-chuan in the department store section will put up the store heirloom Propitious Dragon Turtle for auction. The heirloom has been in the store since its inauguration.
Additionally, NT$1 auction products will be available from 12:30 on October 4 and 5, these include dried fruits from Sanhi Ham and thousand-layer steamed buns from Nanmen Dim Sum. Popular stall Kuaiche will be providing its signature product Thick-Cut Pork Jerky (Classic) (valued at NT$120), a flavor that has become an integral part of many people’s lives since childhood. Lastly, the proceeds of the limited quantity bargain hunt will be donated to NPOs.
Relocation of Nanmen Market to a Makeshift Market during Reconstruction – Closed for Business for 10 Days – First Time in History
According to the Taipei Market Administration Office, Nanmen Market was built in 1981, and this year coincides with its 38th anniversary. To offer a better shopping environment and accommodate the construction of the MRT Wanda Line, the Nanmen building will be demolished in December 2019, and it will be closed for 10 days starting on October 7 for relocation.
The Nanmen makeshift market is scheduled to commence a soft opening on October 17 (No. 55, Sec. 2, Hangzhou S. Rd.). Nanmen Market will continue the heritage and traditional flavors of its predecessor; it will also strive to enhance its product quality during the recess.
A farewell party will be held on the last day of the opening of the old Nanmen Market (October 6), inviting the public to bear witness to the history of Nanmen Market with the stalls and offer a word of encouragement to the stalls being relocated.
