The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced that the annual tunnel and underpass cleaning operations will be carried out between August 23 and October 22. A total of 9 tunnels and 8 underpasses will implement lane closures to allow cleaning crew to work between midnight and 6 AM during this period.
 
To ensure the safety of the cleaning crew, safety trucks with truck-mounted attenuator will be dispatched to act as mobile protection buffers for staff members on duty.
 
DEP also calls upon drivers passing through the tunnels where staff members are working to drive slowly and carefully. They should adhere to the directions of traffic control personnel and pay attention to traffic updates on changeable message signs (CMS) when approaching work areas.
 
According to the agency, tunnel cleaning operations are implemented for 9 local tunnels and 8 local underpasses every year to help keep them clean. During the announced cleaning period, the lanes where work is being conducted will be sealed off and warning equipment (traffic cones, warning lights, LED displays, etc.) are placed to warn incoming vehicles to drive carefully.
 
Notices of cleaning operations will also be posted on the electronic bulletin board of Taipei City and CMS displays, as well as through radio station announcements.
