Taipei Expands List of Muslim-friendly Tourist Destinations, Hotels

Deputy Mayor Tsai with representatives of the newly certified Muslim-friendly hotels and tourist spots.Following the establishment of the first Muslim-friendly Tourist Attraction Certification last year, Taipei City announced that it has expanded the list of Muslim-friendly hotels by 11 businesses and added 3 more Muslim-friendly destinations to the list.

During the press conference on December 2, Deputy Mayor Tsai Ping-kun handed out the Certificate of Muslim-friendly Dining, Tourism, and Environment to representatives from these newcomer hotels and institutions. Dignitaries attending the ceremony include officials from the Tourism Bureau and foreign representative offices.

At the same time, to allow the public to learn more about the tourism resources for Muslim visitors, the Department of Information and Tourism set up a B2B conference inviting 20 tour operators dealing with Southeast Asian and Muslim visitors traveling to Taiwan. They met with the representatives of aforementioned hotels and tourist attractions to discuss possible collaboration and promotion campaigns.

Deputy Mayor Tsai pointed out that Taipei ranked 3rd place among non-Muslim countries in the 2019 Mastercard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index, right behind the UK and Japan. Despite the pandemic, the number of Muslim-friendly hotels and tourist sites continue to grow. Once the travel bans are lifted in the foreseeable future, Taipei will utilize its advantage to attract even more Muslim tourists.

In addition to the 43 Muslim-friendly hotels, with the 11 newly certified hotels, Taipei will be able to provide nearly 200 rooms for Muslim tourists. These hotels provide services such as prayer rugs, labels pointing in the direction of Mecca, washroom equipped with bidet or washlet, breakfast complying with religious codes, and staff who are trained in receiving customers of the Islamic faith.
