Accepting the invitation from Kinmen County Government, the Department of Sports Affairs led a delegation to take part in the 2022 Kinmen Marathon on April 24.
 
Led by senior specialist Lu Sheng-yuan of the agency, the delegation consisted of top runners from Taipei City including Chang Chih-hsuan and Vincent Li. Chang, who won the second place at the 2021 Taipei Marathon with the result of 2 hours 46 minutes and 37 seconds, successfully claimed the gold medal in the women’s category at the Kinmen Marathon with a time of 3 hours.
 
Meanwhile, Lee claimed the second place in the men’s half-marathon category with a time of 1 hour 18 minutes and 43 seconds. Coach Chen Ping-feng, who participated in the men’s 10.8-kilometer run, came in first place with 38 minutes and 6 seconds.
 
During the post-event press conference, Chang said she is honored for the opportunity to participate in the sports exchange on behalf of Taipei City. Despite the hot weather and the temptation to give up halfway through, the athlete remarked that she is happy for completing the challenge, allowing her to travel every corner of the island. She took part in the half-marathon category of the event back in 2018 and 2019.
 
Lee said this is the first time for him to take part in a marathon held at one of Taiwan’s offshore islands. Despite being unable to claim the top honor, he is still glad for having this opportunity to meet friends and enjoy scenic views.
 
Taipei City has invited athletes from Kinmen County to take part in the Taipei Marathon every year since 2020. After inking the MOU on sports exchange with its Kinmen counterpart, the two municipal governments have strengthened interactions through events such as marathon, hoping to stimulate the popularity of sports and exercising among residents.
