Mayor Meets Members of Taipei’s Team for 2023 NMSAG

Mayor and athletes of Taipei's teamTaipei City’s team achieved an amazing result at this year’s National Middle School Athletic Games (NMSAG), which took place in Hsinchu County between April 22 and 27. In addition to winning the national championship after a two-year absence, Taipei’s team also brought home 134 gold medals, 111 silver medals, and 139 bronze medals. There are also 17 athletes who broke records, and 2 individuals who set new records at the games. 

 

Mayor Chiang Wan-an expressed his gratitude to the athletes, trainers, coaches, and school principals. He personally presided over the ceremony organized by the Department of Education to show his support for the athletes and hand out incentive rewards. He also took the opportunity to congratulate team members for their outstanding achievements – especially breaking records in the categories of track and fields, shooting, swimming, and cycling. 

 

He pointed out that Taipei City will host the 2024 NMSAG, and things have been set into action after he unveiled the plaque of the 2024 NMSAG Executive Committee on May 22. Taipei City will tap upon its comprehensive sports venues, rich public resources, and experience in holding international games to provide athletes with a welcoming and vibrant experience at the upcoming competition. 

 

The mayor also reminded the team members that they will return to their home ground in the 2024 NMSAG. Being able to compete on familiar territory and before their loved ones, Chiang believes that the athletes will have even more incentives to perform well and help the city retain the medals. 

 

At the end of his speech, Chiang stressed to the audience that he has high expectations for the 2024 NMSAG and hopes that all athletes on Taipei’s team can once more demonstrate their talents and continue their outstanding performance in the fields next year.
