TFF Celebrates 24th Anniversary
Mayor Ko Wen-je attended the award ceremony for the 2022 Taipei Film Festival’s (TFF) International New Directors Competition and the Taipei Film Festival Award Shortlist Announcement Banquet in the evening of July 8.
During his address, Ko expressed his gratitude to film industry workers who contribute behind the scene. He also hopes that if industry workers have any suggestions or require assistance in this area, they should speak freely. By doing so, they will help Taiwan’s film industry develop and grow.
The mayor remarked that TFF is not simply an award ceremony; it is an important annual gathering for people working in the movie industry. Celebrating its 24th birthday, TFF made significant progress over the years, moving alongside the development of Taiwan’s movie industry.
One of the most important events of TFF is the International New Directors Competition. This year, the competition attracted 544 submissions from 94 countries. Following review by the jury panel, 12 films were shortlisted and both the Best Film and Jury’s Honorable Mention will be chosen at the banquet. For the Taipei Film Award, 30 films have been shortlisted after a fierce competition among 268 entries.
Ko pointed out that each successful film involves numerous behind-the-scene crew members. For tonight’s awards, the individual who receives the trophy on stage can be seen as representing an entire team. The organizers would like to express their gratitude to those working behind the scene.
A major occasion for Taiwan’s movie industry, the mayor hopes that Taiwan’s movies can be like TFF – each year bringing more exciting than the previous edition. He promised that Taipei City Government will continue to support the continued development of the movie industry.
