Teams Compete at 2022 Taipei Cup eSports Tournament
The in-person eSports event is the largest of its kind since the easing of pandemic prevention measures. This year’s competition attracted a record-breaking, 258 teams. Furthermore, the city government worked with J Team to invite game enthusiasts across various fields – models, accountants, fire fighters, youtubers, etc. – to take part in the tournament. The first day’s competition spotlighted the final in “Arena of Valor.” The stars of ONE Team confronted popular youtubers in an exciting match. The finals featured a heated confrontation between the teams “Ahhahahaha” and “Li-ming x Nanhua Senior High School,” with the latter claiming the gold medal. The spotlight of the second day falls upon the Hearthstone tournament. Among the eight people making it to the finals, “Charlie Waken” emerged as the top winner. For those who demanded more matches, world champion Tom and seven other Hearthstone youtubers put on an exhibition match to the delight of the audience at the venue. Commissioner Simon Lu of the Department of Information Technology pointed out that Taipei City Government has been holding the Taipei Cup competitions since 2016, seeking to promote both the hobby and the industry. The event is also aimed at providing more exposure to professional gamers and raising public awareness about esports.The finals for the 2022 Taipei Cup eSports Tournament and Carnival took place at WESTAR in Ximending between November 12 and 13.
