City to Upgrade Wi-Fi Service via Integration of 4G Technology
The Department of Information Technology (DOIT) announced that the city government will review the policy on promoting the public free Wi-Fi service, in line with Mayor Ko Wen-je’s vision to provide residents with an environment comprising smooth wireless internet connection.
Despite the remarkable coverage rate of TaipeiFree network, complaints have been filed by users over connection problems with the service.
In light of this, Mayor Ko has instructed related authorities to address the issue, believing that smooth wireless internet access is a basic right for people living in a modern city.
To achieve this objective, DOIT will reexamine the mechanism of Taipei Free, seeking to monitor the connectivity status of the service at every hotspot across the city, hoping to use the data as reference for making improvements accordingly.
In addition, DOIT will strive to offer residents a more satisfying internet experience through the incorporation of fourth generation (4G) technologies with the existing Wi-Fi mechanism.
