Further Exchanges Between Taiwanese and Japanese Zoo – Taipei and Toyohashi Signs MOU

Taipei Zoo Inks Friendship Pact with Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical In order to reinforce professional collaborations among the major zoos in Asia for the sake of promoting wildlife conservation, research and education, the directors of the Taipei Zoo and Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical Park signed an MOU at 10:30 this morning (12/15) witnessed by guests including the Taipei City Government’s Department of Education (DOE) Commissioner Tseng Tsan-Chin, Toyohashi Mayor Koichi Sahara, Head of Cultural Affairs and Public Relations Department, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Kazuki Matsubara, and Weide Lions Club President Lin Feng-Cheng. It is hoped that the partnership and endeavors of both zoos will offer more contributions to wildlife conservation.

Wildlife conservation is not the sole responsibility of any individual region, country, or organization. Wildlife conservation benefits can only be maximized through interregional, international, and inter-organizational exchanges. The Taipei Zoo has upheld a good relationship with Japanese zoos in recent years; after Tokyo’s Tama Zoological Park, Hokkaido’s Kushiroshi Zoo, Sapporo Maruyama Zoo, and Asahiyama Zoo, as well as Osaka Tennoji Zoo, Zoorasia, and Ueno Zoo, Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical Park is the 8th mainstream Japanese zoo to sign a conservation MOU with Taipei Zoo.

Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical Park is located in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. With an area of more than 40 hectares, the park combines the functions of a zoo, botanical garden, amusement park and natural history museum. In order to provide the tourists with an up-close and personal wildlife observation experience and offer children more opportunities to get close to wildlife, most of the exhibits in the park adopt an open design. Moreover, the evolution of life on Earth as demonstrated in the natural history museum further enhances people’s wildlife-related knowledge and fosters the concept of cherishing the natural environment among the general public. The fun and educational activities can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.

This morning (12/15), the Taipei Zoo and Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical Park signed a MOU witnessed by guests including DOE Commissioner Tseng Tsan-Chin, Toyohashi Mayor Koichi Sahara, Head of Cultural Affairs and Public Relations Department, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Kazuki Matsubara, and Weide Lions Club President Lin Feng-Cheng, hoping that the partnership and the joint efforts of both zoos in conservation, research, and education will help to improve their expertise in various fields. Furthermore, the aim is to implement the distribution of species, population management, as well as to reinforce exchanges between zoo professionals in an effort to generate the maximum benefits for wildlife.
