Pedestrian green lights will be turned on early for the whole day at the intersection of Xinglong Rd. and Xinhai Rd. starting January 14, 2015

Taipei City Traffic Engineering Office (the “Office”) will implement “early turn-on of green lights for pedestrians” at the intersection of Xinglong Rd. and Xinhai Rd. in Wenshan District starting January 14, 2015, in order to protect the safety of pedestrians at the crossing.
Located near Xinhai Tunnel, this intersection is an important passage way between Da’an and Wenshan Districts, where pedestrians and turning vehicles often intersect and come in conflict with each other. To ensure traffic safety, the Office has successively implemented 2 trial-run measures, including a designated time for pedestrian use and an early turn-on of pedestrian green lights, since late July 2014. During the trial period, the Office conducted multiple rounds of observations and adjustments. Other involved agencies were also invited for joint investigation and consultation on improvement measures. The results of the trial showed that early turn-on of pedestrian green lights was able to better match the needs of local pedestrians and vehicles. Therefore, this early turn-on of green lights will be implemented while the designated time for pedestrian use is cancelled.
As a reminder from the Office, pedestrians and drivers should properly follow traffic signs when passing by this intersection. Meanwhile, pedestrians should cross as quickly as possible to maintain traffic safety.
