City Urges Taipei Residents to Friend LINE TCG Official Account

In response to the news report on January 28 regarding the ranking of Taipei’s LINE official account having the least friends count among the 6 special municipalities, Director Jiang Shi-min of Taipei City Government Department of Information and Tourism’s (TPEDOIT) Multimedia Information Office pointed out that the official city account is relatively new compared to its peers. TCG will continue to communicate with Taipei residents through LINE. He urges Taipei residents to add the TCG official account on LINE as friend to receive information on events and promotions.
Jiang explained that due to technical restrictions, LINE only provides TCG “One-way Messaging”. Residents can only receive message but cannot send messages to the TCG official account on LINE. However, residents can voice their views on government policies through the monthly “ON AIR” events. The one-hour ON AIR event invites the public to leave messages on specific government policy-related topics. Participants can also enter a sweepstake for free gifts.
Jiang noted that TCG utilizes various channels to promote city information. Since the creation of TCG LINE official account in December of 2013, the service offers a more convenient way for residents to receive information. TCG also uses this channel to broadcast daily activities, services, convenience measures, traveling tips, and promotions. Taipei-ers can obtain useful information at their fingertips through the TCG official account on LINE.
For example, TCG released information on the recent avian influenza through its LINE account on January 11. The City informed residents about TCG’s prevention measures and reminded them to pay special attention to the influenza.
Furthermore, it also utilized various marketing channels to promote the TCG official account. Taipei residents are encouraged to friend TCG official account on LINE by either QR code scanning or searching for ID @taipei.
