Application for 2021 Computer Purchase Subsidy Now Accepted
The Department of Social Welfare (DOSW) organized the kick-off and donation ceremony for the 2021 Computer Purchase Subsidy Program on April 21. The program helps to cover computer purchases for students from low- and middle-income households in Taipei.
During the ceremony, Social Welfare Commissioner Chou Yu-hsiu expressed his gratitude to the representatives of Sunfar Computers Company for contributing to the charity drive by offering an extra NT$2 million in funds. Since 2014, it has donated over NT$10 million to the program to assist those from disadvantaged households. Hopefully, more businesses will follow to help realize the dreams of young students in crossing the digital gap.
For 2021, the subsidy is available for 1000 students from low-income households and 300 applicants from middle-income households. After reviewing the submissions, DOSW will notify the applicant on the results. Those securing the subsidy can purchase the products first and submit the uniformed invoice to the agency for reimbursement.
Considering that there are students who do have enough funds in the first place, DOSW will purchase 40 computers at a price covered by the subsidy and make them available for applicants from low-income households directly. The agency hopes that the initiative will help narrow the digital gap for financially disadvantaged students.
Applications for the 2021 computer purchase subsidies will be accepted between May 1 and 31 (postmarked). The subsidy is available only in limited amount, so those who seek to purchase a new computer or replace a cold computer are encouraged to act early.
