Mayor Ko at the press event celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Maokong GondolaMayor Ko Wen-je attended the press conference celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Maokong Gondola on October 5. He pointed out that the gondola is an important landmark and tourist destination in Taipei City. The gondola has performed over 30 million rides over the 15-year period.

As for the future, the mayor noted that the MRT Circular Line and the LRT Ankeng Line will both be connected to the Maokong Gondola. Access to the mass transit lines will no doubt make Maokong area an important traffic hub. That is why he believes it is important to implement the “Three Cats Project” – Maokong Tea Culture Commercial Area, Maokong Gondola, and Panda (Taipei Zoo) – to solidify the region’s standing as a leisure activities and tourist attraction.

Ko stressed that as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Maokong Gondola, we should also take some time to contemplate on how to make Maokong a center of culture and leisure for Taipei City as the transportation network becomes more comprehensive. The city government’s overall plan is to develop the humanities and cultural aspects of the neighborhood, as well as to improve the surrounding ecosystem. Doing so will help encourage more people to visit this area.

In addition to working on the Three Cats Project, the city government has also set up the “Maokong Diary” social media website to share info on dining and fun across the Three Cats region. For enthusiasts who want to follow the latest developments in Maokong, they can find out more on either Maokong’s IG or its FB sites.

Furthermore, the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation will also organize numerous online and physical activities to celebrate the 15th birthday of the Maokong Gondola between October and December.
