YDO: Livestreaming of Hiking Intro Seminar on October 2
Do you know that in Taiwan, there are over 268 mountain peaks that are higher than 3,000 meters? The island, which covers an area of 36,000 square-kilometers, also boasts the highest density of towering peaks in the world! This is something for us to be proud of!
With so many magnificent mountains across the island, Taiwan is also the home to a comprehensive hiking trail system. Hiking is arguably one of the more popular activities for Taipei residents as well.
To promote these destinations, the Youth Development Office (YDO) organized the call for travel essay submission for Taipei Young Trip Website focusing on 3 major themed routes: Taipei Grand Trail, Internet Celebrities’ Hidden Attractions; and Introduction to Hiking for Beginners.
In the interest of providing the public with an overview on hiking, YDO invited well-known bloggers Mellisa X Mao to host a live session on its Facebook page to share the basics starting at 2 PM on October 2. They will cover topics such as the six important tools used for hiking, things to look out for when challenging the 100 peaks, how to use GPS, and the fundamentals on emergency rescue. For those who cannot attend the live streaming session, the show can be replayed from the archives.
Furthermore, from today through October 31, individuals who submit their travel articles to the Taipei Young Trip Website will have a chance to win a NT$5,000 voucher and a hiking stick. Another reminder for participants of GEO’s Taipei Grand Trail Treasure Hunt who completed all the challenges: they are eligible to receive a completion certificate, commemoration towel, and souvenir scarf from the organizer.
