Submission Opens for 2022 Taipei City Zero Carbon Emission Benchmark Award
To encourage communities and enterprises to jump on the bandwagon of reducing carbon emission, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) joined hands with the Department of Economic Development (DEP) to organize the 2022 Taipei City Zero Carbon Emission Benchmark Award. The deadline for entries is July 18, 2022. Winners have a chance of bringing home up to NT$200,000 in prize money!
Taipei City Government set its sight on achieving Net Zero by 2050. The International Energy Agency stated that changes in energy consumption behavior can contribute to the objective of zero carbon emission by 8%. This year’s Carbon Emission Benchmark Award is a continuation of the Energy Conservation Leadership Award, seeking to spotlight private sector organizations which demonstrated outstanding achievements in reducing carbon emission.
DEP pointed out that to support the city’s objective of Net Zero effort, this year’s award incorporated factors such as ESG and carbon emission reduction into the assessment process. The Zero Carbon Emission Award has added four additional evaluation areas including “ESG Results,” “Greenhouse Gas Examination,” “Carbon Emission Reduction Results,” and “Energy Conservation and Carbon Emission Reduction Management Mechanism.”
According to the agency, winners will be chosen in three separate divisions, including Commercial Industry A (contract capacity exceeding 800kW), Commercial Industry B (contract capacity under 800kW), and Community. A panel consisting of experts and scholars will evaluate entries based on both submitted papers and onsite inspection to determine this year’s winners.
The 2021 Energy Conservation Leadership Award attracted 46 entries, with 26 winners selected from the pool of contestants. The overall reduction in power consumption by participants reached 1,064 kW, which is equivalent to the power used by 2,928 households in a year. This also helped to reduce carbon emission by 5,324 metric tons – roughly the amount absorbed by 14 Daan Forest Park over one year.
The list of winners for 2022 will be announced in September. For details on registration, please visit the Chinese website of Taipei Smart Power Saving Web: Link
