TCG Expresses Support for Including Daily Rental Suite Regulations in the Statute for the Development of Tourism

On January 8, the Legislative Yuan Transportation Committee passed the initial review for the amended draft of Statute for the Development of Tourism to include regulations governing daily rental suites.
Deputy Commissioner Chiu Peng-hsin of Taipei City Government Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) expressed his gratitude to the committee’s decision. The city government has cracked down on 223 illegal daily rental suite, issuing fines totaling NTD 29.5 million from over 1,700 joint spot-checks since 2010.
Among all cities in Taiwan, Taipei has the largest concentration of illegal daily rental suites. To enhance public safety, the completion of the amended draft will help TCG monitor daily rental suite businesses more effectively.
Under the new regulations, violators will receive fines between 180,000 and 900,000 NTD; the authority can also order immediate shut down, cut-off utilities, or conduct forced dismantling of the suite. TPEDOIT showed its support for the amended draft, noting that it will improve tourist’s safety.
TPEDOIT explained that it will continue to conduct joint spot-checks on daily rental suites and urges tourist to choose legal rental suites to ensure one’s own safety.
