Borough Offices Participate in Preparatory Exercise Ahead of Wan-an No. 46 Drill

People taking part in an air raid drillWith the Wan-an No. 46 Air Raid Drill slated for July 24, the Department of Civil Affairs (DCA) reported that a total of 456 sessions of preparatory evacuation and shelter drills will be carried out by July 15 across 456 borough offices in 12 city districts. These drills will help familiarize borough office staff with details such as evacuation route and air shelter locations.

For the initial phase, the borough chiefs of 456 boroughs were invited to workshops held before the end of May at the respective district offices. At the workshops, participants received briefing by seed trainers from the respective police precinct on subjects ranging from air raid exercises to evacuation guidelines to preparation of emergency supplies and medical gears. A total of 3,477 borough office personnel participated in the sessions.

To help the public learn more about evacuation and sheltering details, DCA scheduled preparatory exercises for all of Taipei’s 456 borough offices, educating borough chiefs – who also double as branch leaders of civil defense corps subdivisions – on the locations of shelters in the respective boroughs.

Seminars were also carried out at the borough level, providing information such as shelter location, downloading air raid evacuation and equipment app, postures for minimizing damage during air raids, and other useful instructions. This is the second time for the city government to organize citywide, borough-level air raid preparation exercises in Taipei’s history.

According to DCA, the education program hopes to enhance the knowledge of borough chiefs and residents on details related to air raid drills. Familiarity with the location of air raid shelters and procedures of evacuation will help improve the response time and survivability of individuals in the face of real threats.
