July 3 marks the first work day after the new public transportation monthly pass – TPASS/Megacity Pass – went live. Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) Chairman Chao Shiao-lien, President Huang Ching-shinn, and top company officials visited MRT Taipei Main Station at 6 AM to observe firsthand how the new pass was received by commuters.

Between July 1 and July 3 (up through 10 AM), statistics show that Taipei’s MRT network have registered over 420,000 accesses using the Megacity Pass. All the fare gates now accept Megacity Pass, and the ticket vending machine at MRT stations have been updated to include functions such as Megacity Pass vending and NT$1280 All Pass refund. 

To accommodate the needs of MRT riders using the pass or seeking to buy the pass, TRTC has set up special rush hour counters at major MRT stations including MRT Taipei Main Station, MRT Taipei City Hall Station, MRT Nangang Station, MRT Banqiao Station, and MRT Beimen Station. 

In addition, dedicated personnel in yellow vest will be assigned to the following MRT stations during rush hours to assist passengers with Megacity pass-related issues: MRT Beimen Station, MRT Taipei City Hall Station, MRT Ximen Station, MRT Far Eastern Hospital Station, MRT Fuzhong Station, MRT Songshan Station, MRT Banqiao Station, MRT Nangang Station, MRT Taipei Main Station (Red line), MRT Haishan Station, MRT Tamsui Station, MRT Jingan Station, MRT Yuanshan Station, MRT Xinpu Station, and MRT Luzhou Station.

The Megacity Pass offers pass holders the freedom of taking unlimited rides on MRT, Airport MRT, public buses, intercity coaches, YouBike, and trains within the set zone across a 30-day period. This public transportation travel pass averages out to roughly NT$40 a day, which is great news for thrifty individuals.
