Tuition Subsidy for the Children of Unemployed Workers with Household Registration of Taipei City

  Helping the unemployed workers get through hard times and caring for the disadvantaged families, the Department of Labor of Taipei City Government subsidizes the children of unemployed workers so that their children can maintain their focus on their studies. It also lightens the parents’ financial burden. The application for school tuition subsidies for the unemployed worker of Taipei city regularly stars in February for the spring and August for the fall semester. 


Qualifications for applying for the preceding subsidy are as follows: 


1.An involuntary unemployed worker whose household registration is in Taipei City. 


2.The children of preceding workers are full-time students at senior high school, vocational high school or university/collage, and they have not yet been granted a similar subsidy for study or a reduction of tuition and miscellaneous expenses. 


3.The previous annual gross consolidated income of the applicant and his/her spouse totals less than 1,480,000. 


4.The applicant is unemployed within the time that the announcement specifies, and the unemployment is more than 1 day and has not yet reached 6 months.


  A person who has applied for the Old-Age Benefits of Labor Insurance is not eligible to apply for this subsidy. As of the date of starting the application, if one still attends the Multiple Employment Promotion Program or other similar types of measures to employment promotion, he/she cannot apply for this subsidy either. However, if one who meets one of the following needs is not limited. 


1.As of the date of applying for the subsidy, a person is still taking part in vocational training in accordance with the law and receives vocational training living allowances. 


2.After re-employment, a person is involuntarily unemployed, and he/she can present the certificate of involuntary unemployment. 


Household registration is supposed to be in accordance with the following rules: 


1.The applicant must have the household registration in Taipei, and his/her children are full-time students of the domestic senior high school, vocational high school, college or university (graduate student, government-funded student, student of an in-service program, a student that take credit course, a student that takes class on the weekends, a student of an alternative co-operative education program, a student of the National open university, a student of an open college, a student of the department for a Second bachelor degree or a student of delayed graduation. 


2.The household registration in Taipei is not required for the applicant who married with a Taiwanese whose household registration is in Taipei, the expat who has been allowed to live and legally work in Taiwan and the residents of Mainland China area, Hong Kong and Macao.
