"Stray" Girl Turns Her Life Around: "Cha Cha" Successfully Completes Behavior Rehabilitation and Awaits Adoption at the Animal Shelter

To increase the pet adoption rate, the Taipei City Animal Protection Office has hired animal behavior specialists to improve the behavior of shelter dogs. Additionally, they offer free behavioral consultation services to adoptive owners, helping adopted dogs integrate more smoothly into their new homes. "Cha Cha," a female dog who arrived at the shelter in April 2022, has gradually opened up after behavior modification training with an animal behavior specialist. You can learn more about "Cha Cha" by watching videos on the Taipei Animal Shelter's Facebook page or by visiting the shelter in person. Adoptive owners will be offered free animal behavior consultation services.

The Taipei City Animal Protection Office has long employed behavior specialists to help socialize stray dogs at the Taipei Animal Shelter. According to statistics, from January 2023 to the end of March 2024, a total of 46 dogs have completed training, with 19 of them already adopted to new homes. Cha Cha, an adult dog admitted to the shelter in April 2022 due to aggressive behavior, underwent behavior modification training. Initially, her experiences as a stray made her very wary of both people and her surroundings. However, thanks to the dedication of the staff, consistent leash training, stress-relief exercises, and a calmer living space, Cha Cha slowly began to trust people. She now accepts hugs from strangers and has transformed into a "teacher" for visiting groups, helping them learn how to interact with dogs. Due to her quiet and gentle personality, Cha Cha has been at the animal shelter for over two years. We invite those who are considering adopting a pet to visit the shelter for a meet-and-greet appointment, to give Cha Cha the chance to become a loyal companion for someone who enjoys taking walks.

The Animal Protection Office emphasizes that pet ownership is similar to parenting and requires you to assess your ability to care for an animal. Before adopting, potential pet owners are encouraged to consult with an animal behavior specialist to learn about the animal's personality and key training tips. After adoption, they can take advantage of unlimited free behavioral consultation services.
