In light of the possible landing of Typhoon Megi, the Taipei Confucius Temple Governing Board announced the following adjustments to the upcoming Confucius Day events:

1. The practice ceremony slated for the afternoon on September 27 will be cancelled.
2. The Confucius Day Commemoration Ceremony on September 28 will be delayed for 3 hours, moving the starting time from 6 AM to 9 AM. A total of 100 free admission tickets to the ceremony will be given away at the Hong Gate starting 8:30 AM.

Taipei Confucius Temple pointed out that the latest statistics from the Central Weather Bureau indicate that Typhoon Megi will likely create the most impact upon the island on September 27. To ensure the safety of ceremony personnel, the agency decided to call off the practice ceremony on September 27 and delay the starting time of the event on September 28 by 3 hours.

The Confucius Temple also reminded the public that spectators attending the event will receive souvenirs such as EasyCard stickers, mini-book bag, and ‘intelligence cake.’

The Confucius Day ceremony commemorating the 2566th birthday of the great teacher will take place in the early morning of Wednesday, September 28.

The city government will be giving away free admission tickets to the practice ceremony on September 27 and the ceremony on September 28. Admission tickets will be available for pick-up starting Wednesday, September21. Each individual can receive a maximum of 2 tickets. A total of 200 tickets for each of the ceremony will be given away.

For those who are unable to attend the ceremony in person, the Taipei Confucius Temple will also hold a live broadcast on Youtube on the day of the event.

Spectators attending the ceremony will also receive free souvenirs. According to the temple, it has prepared an “Analects Monkey School Bag” to commemorate both the Year of the Monkey and the story of “Yan Hui asking about perfect virtue.” Four cute monkeys symbolizing the Confucian spirit of “the perfect virtue.” The souvenir is limited to 1,000 copies. In addition, there will be 900 “longevity peaches” and 500 EasyCard stickers (Confucius limited edition) given away to spectators at the event.

Details on the Practice Ceremony and the Commemoration Ceremony:

1. A total of 200 tickets will be given away for the Practice Ceremony on September 27 and another 200 tickets for the Commemoration Ceremony on September 28. The tickets are free and each individual can pick up a maximum of 2 tickets. To obtain your tickets, please visit the Taipei Confucius Temple (Address: No. 275, Dalong Street, Datong District) starting September 21 at the following hours: 9 AM to Noon, and 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM. For group visitors of 5 or more from schools, agencies, or organizations, please request for tickets via mail between September 21 and 23. A total of 200 tickets are reserved for group visitors.

2. An additional 100 admission tickets will be given away on the day of the respective events. The tickets will be distributed at the entrance of Hong Gate starting at 3 PM for the ceremony on September 27 and at 5:30 AM for the ceremony on September 28.

3. Spectators should observe the following regulations when they attend the ceremonies:
a. Children under 10 years old are not allowed
b. Attendees should dress appropriately. No eating, drinking, or smoking at the venue.
c. Entry time for the ceremony on September 27: 3 PM – 3:30 PM; Entry time for the ceremony on September 28: 5:30 AM – 6 AM.
d. Spectators should remain inside the spectator zone during the ceremony and remain quiet. No admission is allowed when the ceremony is being conducted.
e. Out of respect for the ceremony honoring the Great Teacher, no seats available at the venue.
