Highlighting the theme “OPEN MIND．OPEN CITY”, the organizers invite new generation celebrities Prince Chiu and Butterfly Chien to serve as the spokespersons for this year’s competition. Chiu is a pop idol who excels in singing and acting, as well as other fields, while Chien specialized in dance at school, possessing a strong background in this area. The two will serve as panel judges at the finals, as well as challenge the participants with their dance techniques on the same day.
 
As an encouragement for participants, teams who register for the competition this year and compete during the preliminaries will receive free admission tickets to the “2018 MRT Street Dance Music Party” event slated for August 25 at the Taipei Arena.
 
Jointly organized by Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation and Cathay United Bank, the two spokespersons and the second place winner of “A” category in last year’s competition “Dongshou Dongjiao” appeared at the announcement press conference on May 4. The team taking the silver medal last year comprises a group of youths enthusiastic about street dance, with the youngest member being only 12 years old.
 
The 2018 MRT Street Dance Competition will comprise two categories – A group (Youth Division) and B group (Adult Division). Unlike past competitions, the 2018 tournament will no longer include semi-finals. Groups who make it pass the preliminaries will pit against each other via single-round elimination at the finals to determine the champions.
 
The preliminaries will be held on Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15. The finals will take place on Saturday, July 28.
 
Winning teams of the respective categories can bring home NT$160,000, while second place teams receive NT$100,000 and third place winners presented with NT$50,000. In addition, 3 honorable-mention teams in each category will receive NT$20,000 in cash, while the other 4 remaining teams making it to the finals will all bring home NT$2,500. The total amount of prize is worth NT$760,000.
