Annual Maokong Gondola Maintenance Starting June 13
Related information will be posted at MRT stations and Maokong Gondola stations, as well as broadcast through platform TV, station broadcast, and “Taipei MRT GO” app sites to remind passengers of the interruption to services. Maokong Gondola checkups cover bull wheels, emergency breaks, hydraulic cylinders, main motor, gearboxes, standard breaks, and hydraulic controls, as well as overhaul of selected facilities and load tests to ensure the safety of passengers during gondola rides. The Maokong Gondola is driven by two sets of bull wheels. One of the sets has been replaced in 2016. Replacement of the other set will take place this year. The bull wheels play important roles in driving the cable wires of the aerial lift. As an important component affecting the gondola’s operation, the result of the overhaul will have an impact upon the facility’s safety. The maintenance crew must first dismantle the bull wheel and its surrounding devices; even more care is required for the reassembly of the device under the supervision of technical staff from the company which built the gondola. Past annual maintenance of the gondola took place during the month of May. This year, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation has delayed the maintenance to June after considering the possible impact upon major events such as the Mother’s Day and Dragon Boat Festival holidays, as well as Zhinan Temple Cultural Festival activities. For more information on the annual maintenance for the Maokong Gondola, please call the company’s customer hotline (TEL: 02-218-12345) or the 1999 Citizens Hotline. Details are also available at TRTC’s Chinese website: http://www.metro.taipei/ or the Maokong Gondola’s Chinese website http://www.gondola.taipei/.Between June 13 and July 1, the Maokong Gondola will undergo a 19-day-long annual checkup on repair works. Operations for the gondola will recommence on Sunday, July 2.
