Maokong Gondola Service Suspended May 9 Through 31
The Maokong Gondola will close its doors for annual checkup and repair works between Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 31. Services will resume on Wednesday, June 1.
The annual checkup involves an in-depth inspection on equipment and facilities spanning gearboxes to emergency brake calipers to sheave trains. Technicians from the original manufacturer of the gondola system are also commissioned to handle major overhaul of system parts requiring replacements.
Works including repair, maintenance, replacement, and test runs are expected to take up to 23 days.
Due to Mother’s Day taking place on May 8, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation decided to postpone the checkup to May 9 to minimize the impact on the public. Individuals who plan to take their mothers and loved ones for a visit to Maokong on Sunday, May 8 can still access the gondola.
In addition to suspension of services at the Maokong Gondola, the visitor information center at Maokong Station will also be closed during the aforementioned dates. Visitors who wish to explore the Maokong area during this period of time can obtain information from the other nine visitor information centers across the city.
