2019 Tianmu Halloween Festival: Rise into the Air on a Hot Air Balloon

With Halloween right around the corner, the Taipei City Office of Commerce (TCOOC) will join hands with the Tianmu Marketplace Development Association to hold the 2019 Tianmu Halloween Festival on October 26.

Last year, the event attracted nearly 200,000 party-goers to the neighborhood, nearly overwhelming local traffic. This year, the organizers will collaborate with PX Mart in lifting a hot air balloon in the shape of PX Mart bear into the air. Locals will no longer have to travel all the way to Taitung to enjoy the sight of hot air balloons floating high above ground! Individuals who share the Halloween event info on their Facebook page will also have a chance to win prizes such as Tigerair Taiwan plane tickets and a ride on PX Mart Bear balloon!

According to TCOOC, the Tianmu Halloween Festival is one of the most important and popular events for the Tianmu Commercial District. The huge turnout last year brought significant business opportunities to local shops and restaurants, testifying to the event’s economic impact. Now in its 11th year, the Tianmu Halloween Festival is growing bigger and getting more exciting – not to mention its popularity among kids and parents. The organizers welcome everyone to come to Tianmu and have some western style scary fun!

According to Chairperson Tang of Tianmu Marketplace Development Association, in the interest of helping kids obtain unforgettable childhood memories, the organization dedicate time into the planning of the Halloween activity every year. Roughly one million candies are distributed during the holiday, ensuring that kids have fun and the treats are safe. This year is the first time the association joined hands with PX Mart, successfully bringing in a hot air balloon as one of the attractions. It also arranged for the stars of the popular Japanese TV show Ultaman R/B to meet the kids. The noir and fantasy-like atmosphere of Halloween can also be experienced at related events held at venues spanning local department stores, Shilin District Court, and hot springs at Mount Shamao.

Starting 1 PM on October 26, the organizers will distribute 4,000 limited edition pumpkin baskets at venues including Shinkong Mitsukoshi (Tianmu) and Dayeh Takashimaya department stores. A total of 250 stores and businesses in the area have set up pumpkin lanterns outside their storefront, identifying themselves as trick-or-treat destinations. In addition, the Tianmu Sports Park will host an exotic fair, boasting attractions such as Chupa Chups and Mentos tic-tac-toe game, stage concert, Meet-the-mascot-tiger event by Tigerair Taiwan, parents and kids sing-and-dance-along activity, bubble stage challenge, start garden trick and fun area, and Meet Pinkfong and BabyShark by Dayeh Takashimaya. We welcome everyone to come and enjoy the haunted atmosphere in Tianmu!

As one of the Halloween activity venues, Shilin District Court will be giving away candies to kids at the Shilin District Court Juvenile and Family Administration Building to celebrate the scary festivity. Kids can wear judge robes provided at the venue to take pictures inside the actual court, enjoying firsthand experience of what court proceeding is like. Even better, the city government has joined hands with Mount Shamao Hot Spring Development Association to offer customers carrying the activity flier of 2019 Tianmu Halloween Festival a 30-percent discount for admission to public bath at partner hot spring resorts between October 14 and 27 (maximum 4 individuals per flier).
