FEELING JAZZ! The 2016 Taipei Jazz FestivalDate: July 1 – August 14, 2016

Organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs since 2007, the Taipei Jazz Festival will be celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. Over a decade’s time, the Jazz Festival has provided residents with jazz entertainment at the Daan Forest Park on hot summer days, successfully creating a ‘city brand.’ The theme of this year’s Jazz Festival is “Feeling Jazz!” There will be 3 major sub-events, including outdoor concerts, ticketed music performances, and jazz promotion activities taking place at venues at east and west districts of the city.

[Jazz Night Live]: The promotion for Taipei Jazz Festival will kick-off starting July 1. Performances by UNO Jazz Piano Trio, Draft, and jazz guitarist Hope Yeh will take place at Riverside Live House at Ximen Red House on July 1, 1, 8, and 15.

[Seminar]: The seminars of Jazz Music Festival will take place at the following venues: Eslite Bookstore Dunnan Store, Art Reading Café, and Riverside Live House at Ximen Red House at 2 PM on July 23, 30, and August 6. Speakers include Vincent Hsu, Tseng Tseng-yi, and Daisuke Neishi will discuss topics ranging from jazz music harmony to jazz drumming techniques.

 [Jazz Masters Session]: The organizers invite jazz guitarist Dean Brown, bass player Stuart Hamm, and drummer Chris Coleman to hold three class sessions (2 hours for each session) starting at 2 PM on August 11 at the Riverside Live House at Ximen Red House. Registration for the class is available online and admission is free.

 [New Jazz Talent Competition]: To encourage and promote jazz music and to uncover young talent among the new generation of Taiwan jazz musicians, the organizers will be holding a jazz competition for inspired youths. Registration will be available through iNDIEVOX starting July 1. Those clearing the preliminaries will take part in the finals slated for August 12 at the Daan Forest Park. The competition offers first place winner a cash prize of NT$30,000, second place winner NT$ 20,000, and third place winner NT$10,000. Outdoor Jazz Concert:
From August 12 through 14, there will be outdoor jazz concerts taking place starting at 3 PM and lasting to the evening on each of these days. The event will see 18 jazz groups from Taiwan and abroad take to the stage to shine in jazz music. Performers include Golden Melody Award winner Timeless Fusion Party, EijiKadota, Peggy Hsu, and Mozambique jazz singer Dúa Maciel.

International Jazz Music Performance:
The organizers of the Taipei Jazz Festival will invite international jazz masters, including guitarist Dean Brown, bass player Stuart Hamm, and drummer Chris Coleman, to perform at Zhongshan Hall on August 12 and 13. Tickets will be available through iNDIEVOX ticketing system. Ticket prices are as follows: front row zone (NT$800); standard zone (NT$500); and student discount tickets (NT$300).
