Taipei City Government’s COVID-19 Epidemic Prevention SOPs

After the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan in January 2020, the number of confirmed patients worldwide soared to 2,472,259 (as of April 21, 2020),Taiwan was originally predicted to be one of the most impacted countries outside of China due to its geographic location and its economic and trade relations with China.

However, Taiwan’s rapid and rigorous response has allowed the country to stay open without any strict lockdown measures. Instead, the government and people have implemented and followed rigourous hygiene and social distancing measures. In addition, the government has been rigorously screening all arrivals from impacted areas since December 31st, 2019. Currently all arrivals must undergo strict 14 day quarantine.

As a result of these measures, only 422 COVID-19 cases as of April 21st have been confirmed so far in Taiwan. In addition, the number of people infected by the common flu has also declined significantly.
