"Content": "Exhibition period：February 15 - March 22, 2020 The spring of 2020 sees the holding of two major floriculture events. One of them is the Neihu LOHAS Cherry Blossom Festival which highlights nighttime sakura viewing. The other is the 2020 Yangmingshan Flower Festival, which showcases the natural beauty of Yangmingshan. The Public Works Department (PWD) held a press conference announcing the two events on January 22. For the Neihu LOHAS Cherry Blossom Festival, the lightings next to the rows of sakura trees at the LOHAS Park will activated starting the evening of February 2, and will last all the way through March 1. Walking along the riverbank next to LOHAS Park after sunset allows visitors to enjoy the view of pink cherry blossoms which stands out against the backdrop of the evening sky.Following the event in Neihu, the 2020 Yangmingshan Flower Festival will also kick-off on February 15 and last through March 22. On the opening date of the flower festival, several performance troupes have been invited by city hall to herald spring to Taipei. During the event period, the organizers will hold events such as the Grass Mountain Carnival, Flower Dance Competition, and Cherry Blossom Explorer King. We welcome the public to come to Yangmingshan and enjoy the energetic atmosphere.According to PSLO Floriculture Experiment Center Director Sung Fu-hua, the Yangming Park will serve as the venue for a parade and carnival during the 228 long weekend. Members of the public are invited to come to Yangmingshan and enjoy the great outdoors. Also, to attract more young people to the Flower Festival, the organizers held the first Yangmingshan Flower Dance Competition in 2019. The opening press event invited the champions of last year’s contest to demonstrate their skills. This year, the second edition of the competition will be held on March 14. We welcome all aspiring talents to compete for the top honor. The Cherry Blossom King Explorer event slated for March 21 will have “game stages” at locations such as the Flower Clock, Fountain, Wang Yang-ming Statue, Guangfu Tower, and Li Chien-hsing Memorial Plaque. Those who successfully complete all the challenge will be able to exchange for a special plant bonsai bottle at the information desk. The city government will also be giving away a special limited-edition stamp-collection bookmark, which can be used as a discount coupon for dining at nearby shops by completing the stamp rally. For those who are too late to grab one of these bookmarks, do not worry! You can download discount coupons from the event website as well.Another attraction at the Yangmingshan Flower Festival this year is the public art installation “Nest Surrounding” at the Flower Clock Plaza. Through manipulation of natural light and shadows, the structure is an experimental structure which sooths visitors with the changing lights of the environment. Do not miss this location of interest when you visit the Yangming Park during the flower season. To celebrate the arrival of spring, both the 2020 Neihu LOHAS Cherry Blossom Festival and the 2020 Yangmingshan Flower Festival will take place at their respective venues in the month of February. "title": "Together We Glow: The 2020 Taipei Lantern Festival",
"Content": "Exhibition period：February 8 - February 16, 2020 The 2020 Taipei Lantern Festival will take place in Taipei City between February 8 and 16. This year, there will be two major venues for the event – located at Nangang and Ximending respectively. The two stages connect Taipei’s East and West districts to highlight the theme of this year’s event: “Together We Glow.” Taipei City Government held a press event on January 7 to announce the key visual of the lantern festival this year, as well as the main lanterns for the east and west venues. In addition to holding the lantern festival at the venue in the west district of the city as it did over the past 3 years, this time the organizers have also added another venue near the Nangang Train Station – a transportation hub where the three railways of TRA, THSR, and MRT come together in the east part of the city. The dual-venue approach symbolizes the close connection between the two areas of Taipei, where the successful implementation of the West District Gateway Project in revitalizing the older part of the city will transfer to the ongoing East District Gateway Project, bringing a new wave of energy to the east side of the city.Deputy Mayor Tsai Ping-kun remarked: “This year we wish to replicate the successful experience of the Taipei International Lantern Festival over the last three years to Nangang in the east part of town. The implementation of the East District Gateway Project combined with the existing Nangang Software Park, Financial Park, and Nangang Exhibition Center allow us to create a major traffic hub in the east part of the city – in conjunction with the local stop of the Highspeed Rail. Facilities such as a biotech park, Nangang Bottle Cap Factory, Taipei Pop Music Center, and future public housing projects will make Nangang an important center of technology and pop culture of tomorrow. Through the lantern festival event, we hope to introduce international and local tourists to this up-and-coming area. For this year’s Taipei Lantern Festival, the main venue in Nangang will see the participation of many local forces, using the event to connect with the locality and helping to transform the East District.”Rex Hon of Whitelight Motion, the project’s creative director, shared with the public about the design concept of this year’s Taipei Lantern Festival key visual and its theme of “Together We Glow.” He pointed out that the core spirit of the venues on the east and west sides of the city is to “shine together” and the might of the resulting effort. He transformed “2020” into the connecting force between the east and west parts of the city, where the warm yellow color representing the classical feel of Taipei’s west district contrasts with the cold blue color characterizing the futuristic feel shown by the east district, with the two together lighting up Taipei and the future of its citizens. In addition, to incorporate the Year of the Rat, the light shines from the linked mousehole to connect the residents of the city. The merging of West and East results in WE, hoping to bring everyone together and herald in more glory, light, and strength to Taipei in 2020.First Time in Nangang! Super Main Lantern Tian Hong Sin with Local PerformancesThere will be two venues for the 2020 Taipei International Lantern Festival. The dazzling exhibition is designed and crafted by the team under designers Lee Weng-cheng, Lin Shuen-long, architect Wang Shi-fang, and staff members from Ideaplus. The exhibition and stage at the Nangang venue highlights the concept of “wild, fierce, and unrestricted,” with the 9-meter-wide main lantern Tian Hong Sin serving as the site’s major landmark. Lee pointed out that the inspiration of the main lantern comes from the motorcycle – an item representing the day-to-day life of locals. Tian Hong Sin is a transformed motorcycle sprouting wings and standing on two legs. The work symbolizes many of the residents who left their home town to live in urban areas, milling around on the busy streets of Taipei like rodents, all captured by the flashy neon lights and seeking the opportunity to spread their wings and fulfill their dreams.Tian Hong Sin uses parts which add local flavors – “peacock” light, fluorescent tubes, and multi-color beacon strobe lights often seen outside betel nut stalls. The wing section features construction materials used for building tin metal houses such as transparent wave boards and angle steel. The various billboards and signs in the back creates the image of Taipei’s streets to enhance its overall visual impact. Tian Hong Sin is a first attempt in incorporating the idea of Taiwanese open-air theater with the main lantern, merging the concept of the performance stage with an art work. In addition to the linked, dual-lantern show on the opening night spotlighting the two main lanterns at the respective venues, the stage will also see shows by students from local schools, indy bands, and more on regular days during the exhibition period to demonstrate the vitality of the neighborhood.Children’s Fun Lantern Hide and Seek Creates a Fantasy World at XimenThe main lantern decorating the venue at the west part of Taipei is Hide and Seek, which breaks away from the custom of using only a single zodiac animal for the top attraction. This year’s lantern at Ximending incorporates the concepts of fantasy and childhood innocence, transforming the neighborhood into a gigantic fantasy land, reshaping the familiar street landscapes into a world appearing in storybooks. According to designer Lin: “We hope that the spectator is not only a casual observer. By providing a dream-like feel which is far from everyday life, we let onlookers “float” with the gigantic cat and baby mice in the busy streets of Ximending, creating a dialogue for imagination.”The work spotlights several mice – the zodiac animal for this year – appearing with a gigantic cat. There is enough space for people to walk beneath the main body of the lantern. The 9-meter-high work is one of the tallest lanterns set up in Ximending for the festival. Lin remarked that the transparent cat made from FRP will interact with the baby mice, which float into the air with the help of balloons during light shows scheduled to take place every 30 minutes during the lantern festival period. The designer pointed out that the cat’s white fur is made from large amounts of bristles and optical fiber parts to give the animal a realistic feel. Between 6 PM and 10 PM during the lantern festival period, the main stage near the lantern will see performances by members of FOCA Formosa Circus Art every hour. The actors will work in conjunction with lantern show. The 2020 Taipei International Lantern Festival will take place at both the east and west venues starting on February 8 and lasting through February 16. The organizers hope that the event will transform visitors from casual observers into active participants who tell their respective stories and experiencing the “real” Taipei by dropping by both venues. For more information on the 2020 Taipei International Lantern Festival, please visit the official website at:http://2020.lantern.taipei ",

By integrating the concepts of health, work, and relationship with the 3 deities, this year’s event brings together 9 commercial districts: citizens can purchase cooked CNY dishes at Dihua Commercial District and Rongbin Commercial District to use fresh and quality ingredients to safeguard their health; buy things they need for work in the New Year – from tools to attire – at locations such as Taipei Railway Station Rear Side, Huayin Street, Taipei City Mall, Yuanling Street, and Siping Yangguang commercial districts; and enjoy socializing with friends and co-workers over night market food at places such as Ningxia Night Market and Bangka Night Market commercial districts. In addition to experience authentic CNY flavors at the street bazaar event organized by the city government, individuals can also secure a fresh pool of energy to kick off the new year in the aspects of health, work, and relationship. The core of the promotion campaign for the 2020 CNY Street Bazaar focuses on the 3 mascot versions of deities including Shennong, Martial God of Wealth, and the Old Man Under the Moon. Citizens will also have a chance to make their new year resolution and ask for blessings from three life-size fortune lanterns of the gods set up at the Yongle Plaza. Furthermore, the three deities also appear on special, limited edition red envelope (3 different versions available). Each of these red envelopes contain a Prosperity and Good Fortune Gold Card. While these cards can be easily carried around, it also allows interaction via smartphone: by downloading the related app and scanning the God of Luck on the card, you can summon a mini Mayor Ko who will bring you your fortune readings for the day.For those who wants to obtain a prosperity coin, in addition to the traditional way of lining up during designated time at selected locations at the commercial districts, they can also exchange the coins as prizes when they participate in interactive games during the event period at Yongle Plaza, five vendors selling prepared CNY dishes, and the Facebook fan page of Taipei City Office of Commerce (TCOOC).Since one of the themes of this year’s CNY Street Bazaar spotlights health, the organizers invited a community platform comprising of talented chefs – Gastronomie en Scene – and local Chinese medicine and dried goods shops such as Zhengxin Medicine Shop, Li Ly Sun, Huang Yong Sheng Ginseng and Herbs, Huang Chang Sheng Medicine Shop, and Liang Tong Hanfang have joined hands to introduce an entire CNY banquet set Dadaocheng Healthy Meal Menu. Many of the ingredients used for the special menu come from these Chinese medicine shops, and this is the first ready-made meal with room temperature packaging offered by the commercial district. The Rongbin Commercial District, known as the kitchen of Taipeiers, provides a wide selection of organic fruits. As for “Work”, merchandise ranging from bags to attire to accessories can be found at Taipei City Mall, Yuanling Street, and Siping Yangguang commercial districts at affordable prices. As a bonus, the organizers have thrown in a raffle with great prizes including trip to Okinawa for two, iPhone, and Switch! Meanwhile, Ningxia Market and Bangka Market invite lovers and couples to wear paired attire – those dining at selected booths will receive a limited-edition prosperity money!Another spotlight of this year’s CNY Street Bazaar falls upon two local businesses of Dadaocheng – A.S.O Shoes and Li Ly Sun. A.S.O is promoting a special Chinese New Year dinner’s menu designed by the company owner’s wife – Mommy Luo’s Heritage Chinese New Year Dishes – as well as selected products, will be available at the venue for discounted price. Li Ly Sun, the store which ran dried goods business for multiple generations and innovator of ready-to-go CNY dishes, is offering high quality mullet roe to entice gourmet and shoppers. Finally, as a bonus for international tourists, foreign visitors showing their passport at the information desk at any of Taipei’s 11 visitor information centers will receive a free red envelope with prosperity money. For more information on the 2020 Taipei Chinese New Year Street Bazaar, please visit the Facebook website of TCOOC, or pick up pamphlets from local visitor information center or district office. ",

"title": "Celebrating Hakka Culture: 2019 Taipei Hakka Yimin Festival",
"Content": "The Taipei Hakka Yimin Festival is one of the major events in Taipei City. Entering its 32nd year, unlike past edition of the festivity, the Hakka Yimin Festival in 2019 will be held at the Theater Terrace and Main Plaza at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall for 3 consecutive days starting Saturday, October 26.The theme for this year is One Hometown, One Characteristic, which serves as the core concept for the planning of related activities. The 3-day-long festival will feature 3 parade routes and 3 meeting points, as well as 19 Yimin Temples from across 10 municipalities participating in the procession. The largest Hakka Yimin event in Taiwan will see over 80 Hakka-related stalls at the fair and more than 13 cultural performances during this period.Commissioner Hsu Shih-hsun, the head of Hakka Affairs Commission (HAC), pointed out that 2019 is a landmark for the festival as it enters its next 30-year period. Taipei’s Hakka Yimin Festival seeks to become the Hakka exchange platform for both Taiwan and the world. Highlighting the concept of “enriching Taipei’s diverse culture and forming Taiwan’s Hakka brand,” the festival comprises events spanning traditional culture and contemporary art. Starting with the main religious ceremony and sending-off the deity ceremony which emphasizes tradition, events such as shoulder-pole meal-giving procession, creative parade, and hakka-theme fair highlight the hometown and cultural characteristics of the Hakka ethnic group. Through Hakka plays, talented artists integrate Hakka traditional music with popular genres such as classic music, jazz, Latino music, Cuban music, and pop music to merge Hakka with the various aspects of global melodies.Furthermore, Hsu pointed out that Mayor Ko Wen-je has led the shoulder-pole meal-giving procession for five consecutive years. In the interest of building a Hakka-friendly environment and encouraging 3-generation Hakka family to visit this accommodating city, the procession this year also comes with a pre-event vote to help decide the mayor’s outfit at the procession – whether viking warrior, wizard, farmer, or Doraemon. The winning costume will be unveiled at the ceremony on October 27!In addition, the mayor will also take on the role of Hakka language envoy during the procession by greeting participants and spectators in Hakka. Fans can look forward to him speaking Hakka when he presides over the main religious ceremony – just like last year. Come and witness the results of the mayor’s intense Hakka language training schedule. In addition, the cultural activities of the Taipei Hakka Yimin Festival is sure to attract public attention, taking the audience on a musical voyage across different genre of music. With a list of celebrities spanning Hakka music category winners at the Golden Melody Award as well as singer/songwriter producing Hakka original pieces, there will also be Hakka folk song and pop music performances, as well as acrobatic show offering fun for the entire family. The Hakka music night on October 26 will see guests such as Ye Shuhan Brass Quintet, Tito Tang and Montunos, Ginascan Band, and Bass cello master Vicent Hsu. The concert in the evening of October 27 includes teams from the Hakka Language Education Center show off their singing, dance, and musical instrument skills. The growing popularity of the Taipei Hakka Yimin Festival is evident through the growing size of the affiliated fair. This year, the gathering with the theme One Hometown, One Characteristic has attracted 80 stalls featuring ethnic specialty goods and hands-on cultural and creative experiences. Visitors can stop by stalls selling dried persimmon from the town of Xinpu, while those curious about the making process can conduct hands-on lessons on how to make the treat. There’s also coffee from Meinung, and areas displaying Hakka specialty products from around the island. At the entrance of the plaza, the organizers have also set up a selfie area with a public artwork display consisting of a wall of bamboo hats with Bravo in Hakka costume.Meanwhile, the parade in the afternoon of October 27 will be led by a huge float, followed by three lesser floats and an entourage of 30 performance teams. The route will take the participants from CKS Memorial Hall Plaza to Yongkang Street Commercial Area and back.Due to the popularity of the event, individuals are encouraged to take public transportation to the event venue. "title": "Avian-spotting Fun at the 2019 Taipei International Birdwatching Fair",
"Content": "Since 1999, Taipei City Government has joined the Wild Bird Society of Taipei in holding the Taipei International Birdwatching Fair. Now in its 21st year, the annual birdwatching fest will spotlight the theme “Along with the Birds.”According to recent studies and experts, there has been a sharp decline in biological diversity and resources around the world. Despite the notable collapse of the ecosystem pyramid, there are still many people who fail to take note or totally ignore the signs of warning from Mother Nature. With the growing gap in the relationship between man and nature, very few individuals proactively review their actions and how they impact nature, yet the matter of fact is nobody can live their life away from nature. The choice of this year’s theme hopes to remind the public to think from the point of origin. As a member of the ecosystem, no one is immune from the effects of environmental challenges. By focusing on the wild birds, we hope to stimulate interest and curiosity among participants, encouraging them to explore and enjoy the beauty of wild birds and learn how technology has been implemented in the field of avian conservation. Through raising awareness on biodiversity, we attempt to awaken the connection between human and avian (and other creatures). “Along with Birds” is not only a plea for avian, but also for our own future, emphasizing on the environment so we can proceed towards a brighter future.Event: 21st Taipei International Bird Watching FairDate: October 19, 20Time: 9 AM – 4:30 PMVenue: Guandu Nature ParkAddress: No. 55, Guandu Road, Beiotou DistrictAdmission: FreeWebsite (Chinese): http://birdfair.org.tw/index.php",

"title": "Confucian Day Ceremony to Take Place September 28",
"Content": "Exhibition period：September 28, 2019Venue：Taipei Confucius Temple In celebration of the 2569th birthday of the Great Teacher, the Confucius Day Commemoration Ceremony will take place at the Confucius temple on September 28 this year. The event is an important ritual for Chinese culture, though maintaining the tradition in a rapidly changing society has proven quite challenging. To bring citizens closer to the ceremony itself and to raise awareness about the preservation of cultural traditions, the Taipei Confucius Temple has participated in the creation of a documentary tracking the experience of ritual musician students from Chongqing Junior High School. The institution hopes that the images will provide a record for the public and future generation of ritual musicians. The temple also invited celebrity composer and singer Haor to the press event to share his experience on music writing and performances with students. The documentary Le Sheng, Sheng Nian spotlights the students from Chongqing Junior High School who serve as ritual musicians of the Confucius Day commemoration ceremony in 2018 and 2019, as well as Ritual Music Director Sun Ruei-jin. Honored with a nomination at the First China Music Ethnographic Film Exhibition in Shanghai in August, the work is filmed by director Chuang Min-tzu, an alumni of the Graduate Institute of Ethnomusicology at National Taiwan Normal University.Le Sheng, Sheng Nian captures the rigorous process the students have to undergo to ready themselves for the performance over a year’s time – from their first contact with unfamiliar instruments to maintaining their stance while playing, even under brutal weather conditions. The story depicted is one characterized by determination, discipline and teamwork, as well as the development of their mind and spirit.According to Sun, on the day of the ceremony, the students will have to maintain their posture for two hours in the blazing heat through sheer will and stamina. Described by some of the students as “standing on a fry pan,” the training often involves repeated practices during summer vacation – meaning standing and playing music for an hour or two during each session. In addition, the efforts to recruit ritual musicians also faces challenges such as declining student population and competition from college entrance exam preparations. Hidden behind the scenes of majestic Confucian rituals is the excruciating journey of how teacher and students work together to piece together a performance from scratch, making it possible through determination and training. The film will be aired on Saturday, September 28 at the 4D Theater of Taipei Confucius Temple. Members of the public are invited to come and watch the incredible documentary. With the 2569th Confucius Day Commemoration Ceremony taking place at 6 AM on Saturday, September 28 at the Taipei Confucius Temple, the organizers will be giving away tickets starting 9 AM on September 12. "title": "Ryoji Ikeda Solo Exhibition: A Cosmic Journey from Infinitesimal to Astronomical",
"Content": "Exhibition period：August 10 – November 17, 2019Venue：Taipei Fine Arts Museum Galleries 1A & 1B Ryoji Ikeda Solo Exhibition will officially open on August 10, on the ground floor of Taipei Fine Arts Museum. TFAM curator Jo Hsiao and guest curator Eva Lin have joined forces for the most comprehensive solo exhibition of works spanning Ikeda’s career in Asia since 2009. The selected artworks include large-scale sound sculptures, audiovisual installations, light boxes and two-dimensional works, which are created especially for the exhibition, forming an immersive space-time landscape that vaults from microscopic to macroscopic dimensions.Ryoji Ikeda is one of only a few artists renowned internationally for both visual and sound art. His artistic explorations range from math, quantum mechanics, physics and philosophy to synthesized audio tones, music and video. His live performances, installations, and long-term projects involving print publications and music recordings constitute a distinctive creative terrain. Ikeda has exhibited around the world, including Park Avenue Armory in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, ArtScience Museum in Singapore, and the ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany. He is the recipient of the 3rd Prix Ars Electronica Collide @ CERN, winning the artist-in-residence program at CERN.Even though he never received formal training in art or music, Ikeda began absorbing music from a broad spectrum of genres at an early age, and later he began experimenting with editing music, manipulating magnetic tape and toying with sound frequencies. In 1994 he became a member of the multimedia art collective Dumb Type, whose works involved exhibitions, theater, dance, music and publishing. Through these cross-disciplinary collaborations, Ikeda turned his attention to theater and art exhibitions. Later, he began to do sound art performances and became active in music festivals, creating sound installations and releasing albums.By 1995 Ikeda had begun to gradually abandon the use of repetitive musical elements in his sound creations, instead exploring the fundamental question, “What is sound?” and launching an in-depth study of its physical nature. Thoroughly reducing sounds down to their smallest units, he then rearranged and reassembled them, employing such basic elements as pure sine waves and white noise to create composite soundscapes with shifting resonances, and challenging the limits of human aural perception. In this way, he became a pioneer of minimal electronic music.Since 2000, he has followed this spirit of questing for the essence, breaking the basic structure of light down to the level of pixels, while reducing the world to data. Ikeda makes art with the mindset of a composer, incorporating physical phenomena such as sound, light, space and time as elements in his compositions. Achieving a precise expressive structure through the use of mathematical calculations, he transforms rigorous arithmetic logic into artistic forms, endowing his works with his own unique data aesthetic. This exhibition presents the major works of Ryoji Ikeda’s artistic career, gathering together data and code language to compose a metaphysical space of the spirit within Taipei Fine Arts Museum. In the TFAM lobby – an intermediary zone where guests briefly linger, wait or meet – five speakers in the shape of silos have been placed, simultaneously emitting sounds in specific sequences and combinations. This is the work A [continuum]. The standard concert pitch of “A,” to which orchestras tune, has never been precisely defined, from the age of Bach to the present day. In this work, each speaker has been assigned a different “standard pitch” used at different times in history. Their different frequencies interweave and overlap, forming a supremely intricate topography of resonant sonic forms. This rich tapestry of sounds and frequencies permeate the museum lobby as sine waves, providing visitors a listening experience that is always unique at every moment.data.scan [nº1-9] is part of Ryoji Ikeda’s datamatics project, in which he uses pure mathematical calculation to reduce massive quantities of real-world data, such as human DNA sequences, Morse code and particle structures, into individual pixels of visual imagery, yielding meticulously composed microscopic visualizations, which are shown on nine displays set on plinths, all tightly synchronized with a minimal soundtrack. code-verse is a higher abstraction of Ikeda’s previous works, which he has re-scanned and meta-composed, , extracting multiple codes from digital data and setting them free in a world devoid of meaning or content, where they form a symphonic tone poem. The work places the viewer in a space of drifting, flashing sound and light, challenging the brain's capacity to perceive without interpretation.point of no return is a double-faced installation, which Ikeda considers to be his most metaphysical work. On one face, a single video projector casts a black hole, formed by a vast quantity of information. On the other side is a white light with a color temperature nearly the same as the sun’s. The work references the scientific concept of a black hole, with a huge gravitational force that distorts time and space, capturing anything that enters it, even light. The edge in between the two faces is where the trajectories of the black hole and white light intersect, serving as a symbol of the critical threshold of space-time and expressing an enigmatic state transcending reality yet containing limitless images. The large-scale audiovisual installation the planck universe [macro] makes use of the Planck length, an infinitesimal unit of measurement in physics, to explore humankind’s potential capacity to perceive the natural world at scales both infinitely small and infinitely vast. Depicting the boundlessness of the cosmos, from the human scale up to dimensions beyond the observable universe, it attempts to extend the limits of our understanding of the world and approach the edges of the universe’s extremities. Ikeda conceived this work during his residency at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).Using science as a medium, Ryoji Ikeda creates immersive environments, presenting metaphors of cosmological immensity through the mathematical structures underpinning scientific phenomena. His works compel the audience to move beyond an anthropocentric perspective, to expand their understanding of the world, and to begin a new way of sensing: by completely giving oneself over to the connections among perception and soul, scale and space and time. Present throughout Ikeda’s works is an unceasing exploration of many unanswerable questions, ultimately yielding an interpretation and re-expression of the self. The exhibition also features several rare experimental drawings and manuscripts, as well as an audiovisual experience area where visitors can view concert footage, listen to music, and read books, affording a glimpse at Ikeda's creative ideas. In addition to the catalogue for this exhibition, Taipei Fine Arts Museum is publishing the global Chinese-language edition of the catalogue Continuum for Ikeda’s 2018 exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, with the support of Éditions Xavier Barral. On the day of the exhibition opening, the artist will present two live performances. Entrance is free, and the public is warmly welcome. For event details, please visit the official Taipei Fine Arts Museum website (www.tfam.museum) or the Taipei Fine Arts Museum Facebook page. ",

The contenders will be evaluated based on their passion for their respective projects, hoping to recognize individuals with outstanding accomplishments in these areas.According to the Urban Regeneration Office, the Old Building New Life Awards have long played the role of pioneer in upholding the importance of building preservation and maintenance. Long before the ordinance of city bylaws in urban regeneration and building maintenance, the city government has been proactive in the promotion of city building and district revitalization and renewal. Starting in 2001, the city government embarked on projects spanning building facelifts to urban space redecoration, seeking to infuse aesthetics to the exterior of dated buildings. In 2011, the new wave of reutilizing old buildings for new purposes resulted in the rebranding of the initiative to the current award, which the city government hopes will encourage citizens to bring new life into old structures, thereby driving the rejuvenation of urban edifices.Starting with the 2018 edition of the contest, the organizers seek to boost citizens’ awareness on living spaces and street surroundings to promote community interactions and sharing of resources, which help set the groundwork for “friendly community” and “common good” during the process of refreshing old districts. Now in its 19th year, the contest spotlighting urban space renewal has honored over 180 projects in the field, offering the public a feel of the city’s ‘temperature’ and warmth. The deadline for the 2019 Old Building New Life Awards is Friday, August 9. "Content": "Exhibition period：June 27 – July 13, 2019Venue：Taipei Zhongshan Hall,Taipei Shin Kong Cinemas,SPOT HUASHAN Cinema Source: Department of Cultural AffairsTaipei Film Festival—the first to bear the name of a Taiwanese city—plays an important role in bringing together the film industry, government, and academia. The festival makes effective use of government funding by building links with the industry, giving insight into its current state, and helping to nurture film talent and provide contacts within academia. The festival also acts as a channel of communication between filmmakers and their audiences, cultivating a viewership of independently minded connoisseurs.Taipei Film Festival has always advanced with the times by fine-tuning its programme and including top cinematic works from around the world, but also by striving to bring outstanding foreign directors to Taipei to create more opportunities for interaction between domestic and international filmmakers. It is on this platform and using these methods that Taipei Film Festival has built its reputation in Taiwan and around the world. Many of the themes in this year’s programme continue along the lines of previous years. “Asian Prism” focuses on films from Asia, including contemporary works from such countries as Japan, South Korea, India, China, and Taiwan. The “International New Talent Competition” brings in fresh and masterful works from new cutting-edge directors. “Reality Bites” carries on its exploration of the creative forms of documentaries and non-documentaries. This year’s “Retrospective” pays respect to the mother of the French New Wave, the late Agnès Varda, with a wonderful selection of films that explore her people-oriented, gentle, and sincere approach. The“Filmmaker in Focus” presents works of renowned independent Thai film editor Lee CHATAMETIKOOL, and acclaimed Indonesian filmmaker Garin NUGROHO.This year sees the return of the well-received VR segment, where audiences take the immersive sensory experience a step further by visiting the live venue, learning about, and participating in VR film creation, development, and trends. The VR segment also allows content creators to think about how VR technology and formats can be applied to daily life and creative works, and the roles they play in these cross-domain presentations. The planning and presentation of this segment accentuates the innovative and groundbreaking spirit of Taipei Film Festival. In the same vein, “In Progress: Editing” consists of four themed talks delivered over two days that take a look at behind-the-scenes elements of film that may be new to audiences. Led by experienced Thai post-production and sound editor Lee CHATAMETIKOOL, Taiwanese documentary and narrative film editor LI Nien-hsiu, and Hong Kong genre film editor Wenders LI, the talks are aimed separately at industry professionals and general audiences, and will involve discussion about the relationship between editing, story, and the audience.Taipei Film Festival is not just a large-scale film screening event. We hope these programmed screenings, events, talks and workshops will help to show it as a place of nurture where Taiwanese and foreign filmmakers can interact and learn from each other. In this way, it will become a leading platform for cultivating audiences with diverse artistic tastes and viewing habits. As an urban film festival with an international outlook, Taipei Film Festival will strive to continue to innovate and grow step by step. That is our passion and our promise.2019 TFF Website: www.taipeiff.taipei/ ",

"title": "Taipei Zoo will be Closed form 19th to 28th June 2019 not open to visitors.",
"Content": "Taipei Zoo Closed: June 19 – June 28Taipei Zoo will close its doors to the public for a period of 10 days between Wednesday, June 19 and Friday, June 28. Visitors planning to stop by the zoos should take the closed dates into account and plan their trips accordingly.Having relocated to its new home in Muzha area for over three decades, Taipei Zoo used to follow the schedule of closing only on Chinese New Year’s Eve. During these years, to perform necessary maintenance and upkeep, the various exhibition halls take turns closing on different Mondays during each month (the closing date adjusts accordingly to the first work day if the Monday is part of a long holiday or weekend). Given such a tight schedule, the zoo management can only find ways to make room for works and renovations if the need arises by coordinating work time and space to periods that won’t impact visiting hours. Such adjustments often lead to extended work periods and extra costs, as well as lengthen the disruption on the animals living in the affected area. After researching how zoos in other countries approach the issue of performing maintenance and upkeep of zoo facilities, Taipei Zoo worked with the city government to realize the principle of Open Government, Public Participation to set forth a vote on the i-Voting Platform to decide whether the public supports the zoo in extending closed dates for this maintenance purposes. The results of the vote indicated 98-percent of the participants are in support of the idea. Therefore, the zoo decided to add the additional closed dates in 2019 for the first time. However, to minimize the impact on zoo-goers, the zoo management decided to reduce the planned off-dates from 12 days to 10 days. In 2019, the zoo will be closed on Chinese New Year’s Eve and from June 19 through 28.During the 10-day-long closed period, Taipei Zoo will carry out maintenance work for areas across its parameters. It hopes to implement efficient maintenance work schedule and maximize the time to complete overall environment inspections and facility upkeep. Hopefully, the project will strengthen the quality and comfort of the zoo’s environment for visitors while reducing the period of discomfort for the animals caused by related works. Taipei Zoo apologizes for the inconvenience of the close dates upon visitors. ",

"title": "A Wanderer between Heaven and Earth: Yu Peng and His Life Work ",
"Content": "Exhibition period：March 30, 2019 – June 30, 2019Venue：Galleries 2A & 2B, Taipei Fine Arts Museum Unfolding Yu Peng’s nomadic life as an artist in his retrospective: A Wanderer between Heaven and Earth Yu Peng’s retrospective exhibition A Wonderer between Heaven and Earth: Yu Peng and His Life Work will officially open to the public in the galleries on the 2nd floor of Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) on March 30, Saturday. Organized by guest curator Wu Chao-Jen, the exhibition will showcase more than 170 pieces of work after nearly 5 years of preparation. Besides Yu’s well known ink painting diptychs, the exhibition will also display his documents and artworks in different stages of life, including oil paintings, pastel paintings and sketches, which is going to be the largest retrospective exhibition in Pan-Asia in recent years. Born as Wu Kun-Ren, Yu Peng (1955-2014) was born in an area along Taipei’s Waishuang Creek. During senior high school, he was inspired by his art teacher Chen Yi-Keng and attempted to major in art in college. After his failure in the college entrance exam, he set out his unique life journey in artistic creation. Without formal training in academic art, Yu used his own approaches to learning and left the world with entertaining anecdotes. For example, after his failed to attend college, he set up his stall in Taihoku New Park (now 228 Peace Memorial Park) as a portrait artist during 1977 to 1980. Three years of extensive observation and practice helped him build a solid foundation in making portraits, which also became an essential theme throughout all stages of his creation. The curator shared a romantic anecdote in particular that it was during this period that Yu met his wife Hou Chun-Li. Curator Wu Chao-Jen has divided Yu’s art career into 3 stages: the early-stage from 1980 to 1997; the middle-stage from 1998 to 2004, and the late-stage from 2004 to 2014. During the first stage, the artist shifted from his early sketch and watercolor works to the exploration period of ink paintings. Yu Peng’s ink painting style was not inherited from his family nor acquired from a certain teacher; rather, he intentionally learned his techniques from classical ink paintings during his exploration period, imitating works from the Four Masters of the Yuan dynasty to Four Monk Artists of the early Qing dynasty. Such self-training in classical ink painting had a great impact on his ultimate painting style later on. In 1997, Yu was invited by his friend Cheng Tsai-Tung to visit Shanghai and stayed there for 3 years during which he feasted his eyes on Chinese gardens as well as natural landscapes in Jiangnan. The overlapping landscape formations along with the juxtaposition of human figures with Chinese gardens in the composition of his paintings were inspired by his experiences throughout the journey. Many of Yu’s distinguishing elements in art grew mature during the period, and thus the curator designates 1997 as the turning point in Yu’s life. After Yu Peng returned to Taiwan, his travel experiences continued to play a role in his artworks and his life. The symbols in Chinese gardens were the most common elements in the background of his paintings, with his young son in the form of a putto appearing between the Chinese landscape. Yu sought inspiration from the physical world to create fantastic landscape paintings, and ultimately reached his maturity in style around 2000, in the final years of his middle-stage in his art career. His creations in the late-stage centered around his social life with artist and literati friends as well as his health conditions. Yu’s works Drops of Blood as Red Fruit (2009) and his last painting on his deathbed Self-Portrait: Illness (2014) will be exhibited this time, presenting the artist’s decision to face his twists and turns in life with art creations rather than deliberately euphemize or avoid the issue of life and death at the critical moment of his survival. The exhibition follows the 3 stages in Yu’s art career and divides the exhibition area into 8 thematic sections, including: (1) sketches, pastel paintings and oil paintings in the early-stage (2) calligraphy works and album leaves (3) ink paintings in the early-stage (4) large-scale ink painting diptychs (5) oil paintings and ink paintings in the late-stage (6) sketches, pastel paintings and oil paintings in the late-stage (7) documents, private letters and documentary films for the exhibition (8) a simulation of Yu Peng’s studio, displaying his furniture and painting materials. In addition to exhibiting Yu’s typical styles in different stages throughout his life, the 8 thematic sections also comprehensively display his unique life journey and creation concept through a thorough review of his life and his intimate writings. Artist Yu Peng was both tenacious and carefree, and his idiosyncrasy can be appreciated from his paintings, which will always be remembered and revered by all. Curator Wu Chao-Jen stressed that this exhibition by no means aims to emphasize the legendary life of Yu Peng; on the contrary, the exhibition is expected to faithfully unfold the real Yu Peng and his art pieces through reviewing his life under the context. Yu once stated, “I’ve exchanged my life to fulfill my art.” This retrospective tries to demonstrate the distinct issues as well as the quintessential works of art in different stages throughout the artist’s life and share his lifelong determination in creation to the public. TFAM specifically invited Yu’s old friends, writer Hsu Hui-Chi and artist Lin Chaun-Chu, to host “Art Promenades” respectively in April. As they share their stories with Yu Peng to the audiences, their touching friendship will help the public better relate to the artist, bringing warmth to the retrospective. TFAM welcomes all visitors to actively join related activities. For more details, please go to TFAM official website (www.tfam.museum) or follow TFAM Facebook page for latest updates.",

"title": "Past to Present: Mysteries Unveiled Exhibition at Shilin District Household Registration Office",
"Content": "In 2018, the Shilin District Household Registration Office’s (HRO) event The Wheel of House Numbers: A Peek into Taipei’s US Army Quarters met with positive acclaim from the general public. This year, the HRO will launch another archive exhibition titled Past to Present: Mysteries Unveiled. This exhibition will present information and artifacts along four themes: Strolling Down Memorable Lanes, The Art of Street Naming and House Numbering, On the Origin of Street Names, and The Science of Land Recording. The exhibition will run from today until December 18, 2019.Strolling Down Memorable Lanes takes the visitors along Shilin's old and new streets and shows how they changed over time. Among those, the four roads circling from Cixian Temple – namely Dadong Road, Daxi Road, Danan Road, and Dabei Road – receive special attention at the exhibition. The Art of Street Naming and House Numbering shows the evolution of street naming and building numbering practices in the Shilin District over time. On the Origin of Street Names presents the different names of Jiantan Road, from its humble beginnings until today, to illustrate the process of naming roads. The Science of Land Recording explains the Department of Civil Affairs’ Integrated House Query System, Taipei Land Administration Cloud, Soil Liquefaction Risk Query System, and Taipei Historical Map Display System. Thanks to these four databases that draw together information from various sources, the public no longer need to visit city government agencies to check or collect information; a wealth of public information can be accessed straight from anyone’s laptop or mobile phone. Shilin District Household Registration Office Director Li Fu-chin observed that roads are the arteries of people’s lives. As soon as they head out the door to reach any given destination, they will rely on street signs and house number plates to get there. The household registration offices are responsible for naming and numbering every road, street, lane, and alley. He is excited about the prospect of telling people through this exhibition how this process traditionally works, and how it now connects to internet technology such as dynamic GPS services.During the exhibition, the Shilin District Household Registration Office (SLHR) will run two games with prizes:Shilin Coloring Map Cute Edition: Collect a coloring book and crayons for each of your children at the service counter. Each young person that shows their colored-in map to the clerk at the counter will receive a nice little present to take home.Catch’em Treasure Hunt (located at the 3F meeting area of the SLHR): Find all four of the hidden characters東南西北 (east, south, west, north), take a selfie with one of the characters, and post and like the photo on the SLHR Facebook fan page official Facebook (https://zh- Tw.facebook.com/slhrgogo/). The little treasure hunters showing their trophies on Facebook will receive a multi-function whistle (with compass), while supplies last. Exhibition Information: Past to Present: Mysteries Unveiled Dates: From today through December 31, 2019Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00-17:00 Venue: Shilin District Household Registration OfficeAddress: 3F, No. 439, Zhongzheng Road, Shilin District, Taipei ",

"Content": "The Chinese New Year holiday in Taipei is going to be fairly exciting this year! In addition to the Chinese New Year Street Bazaar and Taipei Lantern Festival, Taipei City Government will join hands with PX Mart in organizing the 2019 Taipei Luminarie Show. For the event, the organizers will recreate the Luminarie spectacle which attracted numerous New Year revelers in Europe, US, Japan, and South Korea. The corridor of extravagant illumination extending roughly 300 meters will be installed along Renai Road Section 4 and at Citizen’s Plaza to provide Chinese New Year in Taipei a different ambience. Commissioner of Economic Development Lin Chung-chieh remarked that more and more people have decided to spend their CNY holiday in northern Taiwan. For this year, city hall will be organizing a series of related activities, and he invited the public to stop by the Chinese New Year Street Bazaar to purchase goods they will need for the long holiday and to enjoy a warm and welcoming Year of the Pig. During the holiday, he welcomes everyone to drop by the Citizen’s Plaza to enjoy the mesmerizing showcase. Furthermore, by connecting with the Taipei Lantern Festival taking place in the western part of town, the entire city will light up the night sky in the month of February. From the commercial districts in the west part of the city to the busy department stores in the east part of town, the festivities is bound to bring excitement and joy to the public during the CNY holiday while promoting local tourism. According to the event co-organizer PX Mart, Luminarie has its origins in Italy. The project involves sizable wooden structures decorated with light bulbs of different colors, forming an illumination art piece presented in a 3-dimensional format. The exhibition became a major event for Osaka as a memorial of the Grand Hanshin Earthquake in 1996. The commemorative event has been held for 24 consecutive years and attracted between three to five million visitors each year. The 2019 Taipei Luminarie comprises three distinct sections: Galleria, Façade, and Spalliera. The entire work consists of 233,990 LED light bulbs deployed across a corridor area measuring approximately 300 meters in length and 20 meters in height. The grand and splendid feast of light seeks to emit an essence of “hope” and “brighter future” for the New Year, as well as boosting the international profile of Taipei with the international art showcase. The official kick-off and lighting ceremony will take place at 6 pm on February 5. The structures and display will be activated daily during the showcase from February 5 through 19, from 6:30 PM through 10 PM on weekends and holidays (7 PM – 10 PM on work days). "title": "2019 Taipei Lantern Festival Centerpiece “Sparkling Precious Piggy” Shines in Sound and Light Show",
"Content": "Sparkling Precious Piggy, the centerpiece of the Taipei Lantern Festival, was unveiled on January 22. Measuring three stories tall, Precious Piggy will be displayed in front of Red Square in the Ximending entertainment area. This lantern consists of LED screens comprising 5.5 million pixels—the first such application in digital imaging technology—while Taiwanese DJ RayRay, who played at music festival Tomorrowland in Belgium last year, created a theme song for Precious Piggy that turns the display into a dazzling light and sound show. The Sparkling Precious Piggy sound and light show will start each night at 7 o’clock during the lantern festival from February 16-24. The three-minute theme show is repeated every 30 minutes. Following the beat of a futuristic soundtrack, Precious Piggy will morph into a mechanical monster before returning to a traditional appearance wearing a lion dance mask. Precious Piggy will make faces and strike poses that show her lively, naughty character. Li Ming-dao, a.k.a. AKIBO, the curating artist who designed the centerpiece and the visual identity of the Taipei Lantern Festival, said that the mercurial Precious Piggy symbolizes freedom and lightheartedness and a wish for all Taipei citizens’ dreams may come true. In keeping with this year’s theme of “Twinkle Taipei, Lights up the Dream and the Heart!,” the lantern festival features several themed lantern areas besides Sparkling Precious Piggy, including “Dazzling Creations, Starry Life, and Shining City,” which each offer unique takes on the overall theme. Department of Information and Tourism Commissioner Liu Yi-ting said that this year's lantern area extends along Zhonghua Road section 1, Beimen, and Zhongxiao West Road, and for the first time incorporates the Taipei Travel Plaza next to Taipei Main Station. The works displayed in the various lantern areas, such as Taipei Post Office, Osaka Trading Company, Mitsui Warehouse, Futai Street Mansion, are inspired by the traditional historical buildings of the Western District, and offer spectators a lovely time of enjoying the lanterns and appreciating the legacy of the neighborhood. A perennial favorite with the public, the North Gate shines again this year with light sculpture projections and a Beimen Swing Dance performance that together celebrate the completion of the Beimen Square renovation, explains Chen Yijie, the artist who designed the Beimen light sculptures in 2017. In this year’s performance, the city gate’s contours, the sculptural projections, and the dancers’ moves will blend together in a tableau that transports the audience to Taipei’s glorious past and back to the city’s no less thriving present. The Dazzling Creations lantern area presents the essence of Ximending over time and feels like a walk through a time tunnel. AKIBO explains that at one time, Ximending was the go-to area for store signs and running lights. The Colorful Cacophony Lantern brings that era back to life through a display of store signs and running lights. Well-known graffiti artists Mr. OGAY and CYH Jason joined graffiti artists from around the world in the Graffiti Dream Base tent design. CYH Jason, whose works adorn many a street in Taipei, merged shop board elements with Ximending’s old cityscape, while Mr. OGAY poured out his heart into his works as a new dad. All are welcome to come and discover the fun of graffiti culture during the Taipei Lantern Festival! The Dazzling Creations lantern area is home to as many as 80 pieces this year, a new record in the festival’s history. Those created by students show boundless creativity. Bravo, Taipei city’s popular mascot bear, has his own lantern area at the festival this time and is expected to draw in crowds of fans. In addition, this year's lantern festival has teamed up with Google Assistant to create a personal tour guide system for the 2019Taipei Lantern Festival. Just say "OK Google! I want to talk to the Taipei Lantern Festival!" into your phone, and your phone will switch to navigation mode. Next simply ask Google Assistant about the festival’s opening hours, location, or other key information, and the virtual assistant will tell you. The virtual assistant on your mobile phone or tablet can also help you navigate the crowded festival area to find the lantern areas of your choice. On January 22, the 2019 Taipei Lantern Festival also premiered its promotional video in which rock star Wu Bai, TV host Mickey Huang, Olympic gold medalist and taekwondo professional Wen Tzu-yun take the viewer on a tour along Sparkling Precious Piggy, Beimen Swing Dance, and the Graffiti Dream Base. One by one, yet in unison, they call on everyone to check out the Taipei Lantern Festival and discover a different Taipei! The 2019 Taipei Festival of Lights will be held in Taipei's West District between February 16 and 24. "Content": " The 18th Old Building New Life Awards was established by the Taipei City Urban Regeneration Office (URO) as an old building revival event. The competing themes consist of three different categories for renewal and maintenance: “Residential”, “Non-residential”, and “Community Space (includes open spaces).” The winner will receive a total prize of NT$400,000. The open competition attracted almost 50 submissions – mostly cases of unique old building renewals. The award includes a special prize for online votes starting from today. All citizens are invited to vote for the revived old building that they love the most. Those who participate in the poll have a chance to receive a specially designed gift made by the developer. Only a total of 100 gifts are available, claim one while the stock still lasts! URO pointed out that for this year, the Old Building New Life Awards will focus on the relationship between the community and old buildings rather than pure renovation or extending service span. More importantly, the revived building should operate in a way that serves peoples’ daily lives. Therefore, some of the revived buildings participating in the contest this year have broken out of traditional thinking, some extend existing spaces for innovative renovation, and some others operate to benefit the community and establish a positive connection between the residence and the area. For example, the Ankang Public Housing renewal project has included an accessible escalator, a sky corridor, and garden landscaping to improve the living quality of low-income families. The revival also serves as an example to all 4 or 5 floors-tall old buildings in Taipei. Many of them are applying for the renewal scheme. Who will be the winner? The award will be presented at the ceremony slated for January 29, 2019 (Tuesday) 2PM at Shuxin Hall of Nishi Honganji (Western Temple) (No. 174, Section 1, Zhonghua Rd., Wanhua Dist., Taipei City). “Vote in the old building renewal event to win a gift in the lucky draw” The online poll event starts from January 3 to January 17 and lasts for 15 days only. Every day each voter can cast one vote. Please visit the official website to support your favorite old building. For more event information please visit the official website (https://www.taipeiface.com/) or search for “Old Building New Life Awards” on Facebook.",

"title": "Introducing the 2018 Taipei Arts Festival",
"Content": "The first Taipei Arts Festival (TAF) was held in 1998. This year, we are celebrating the festival’s 20th anniversary. Over the past two decades, TAF has brought together outstanding artists from Taiwan and abroad, their phenomenal creativity and themed performances providing the public with deeply artistic experiences. Beginning this year, TAF is being held by the Taipei Performing Arts Center (TPAC) under the authority of the Taipei Culture Foundation. TPAC focuses on sharing the arts, cultivating talent, and using a wide range of innovative concepts. With its many years’ experience organizing arts festivals, TPAC has brought the arts into daily life, enabling them to spread, and deepening interactions among artists from Taiwan and abroad and creating opportunities for cultural communication and exchanges among cities. Singapore-based Tang Fu Kuen is curator of this year’s TAF. Using the concepts of collaboration and crossing genres and cultures, Tang proposed the theme of “Assembly”. The 20th edition of Taipei Arts Festival (TAF) opens up the artistic frame by inviting Taipei citizens and artists to actively participate and perform the complex relations today between the individual and the masses. This year’s theme ASSEMBLY (translated as 為了～～在一起) asks each of us pause to think and fill in the blank of this brainteaser: “Because of ~~, We are Together’. What makes future co-existence? Taiwan, oft-admired as Asia’s progressive frontier, is the site from which ASSEMBLY seeks to reflexively stage ‘social democracy’ and ‘self-determination’, and probe the notion of ‘co-immunity’. With lectures, workshops, exchanges, and dialogues, as well as theater, music, dance, and multimedia productions, this festival will be a platform on which to gather together the artistic energy of a wide range of different sources. For an unprecedented 10 weeks, TAF will unfold in 3 main frames:1. THINK BARWe kick off with this new discursive platform – 12 robust days of critical performances, public talks and network meetings – to unpack the provocations that ASSEMBLY raises by tracking how ‘performance’ operates in recent social movements, global capital flows, cultural migration and youth activism. 2. Zhongshan HallWe ‘takeover’ the historical civic hall where Taiwan’s key political ceremonies were once hosted. Here, over 3 weekends, ordinary folks will claim their theatre of representation. The blind, the queers, noise-makers, jugglers, amateurs and radicals will assemble to rock the house with a different brand of fun and fire. They propose ways to (re)define singular identities, consensus and sovereignty in Taiwanese context. 3. International Co-ProductionsWe present 3 full works signed in trust by Taipei Performing Arts Center (TPAC) with respective partners in Japan, Denmark and Holland. International collaboration and co-production are core principles that drive future TAF editions, under the mandate of TPAC commencing in 2018.Lastly, we launch our annual Festival Collection which unveils customized creations that capture the distinctive sensuality of Taipei City. Soak in the reprisal of last year’s sell-out ‘Remote Taipei’ by Rimini Protokoll! In the open yet contested space of ASSEMBLY, I propose renewed conversations about ‘private/public’ and paradoxical acts of being ‘alone/together’. The 20th anniversary of TAF shall summon Taiwan’s anima – as the society braces up for a future as uncertain as it is hopeful.",

"title": "2018 Taipei Fringe Festival",
"Content": "★ In Scotland, the Fringe Festival’s scope surpasses that of the Edinburgh International Festival.★ In Provence, the Off Festival is what makes the Festival d’Avignon shine.★ In Formosa, the Taipei Fringe Festival is the pride of Asia! In the overall structure of cultural environment, urban culture plays an important role. Aside from mainstream arts performance in pop culture, there are also other alternative, non-mainstream, experimental art performances that are an integral of shaping the unique qualities of urban culture. The goal of the Taipei Fringe Festival is to provide a platform for liberating art from the theatre space. Instead, art can be performed in galleries, parks, coffee shops and other spaces of public life, allowing for the occurrence of all kinds of small-scale performance art pieces or installations. Through this mechanism, more people can come to understand that art does not just derive from elitism, but can also be the product of everyday lives; anyone can enthusiastically display their creative passions. The concept of the “fringe festival” originated in 1947 during the Edinburgh International Festival in England, when eight arts groups who were not invited to participate in the festival decided to create their own event to rival the International Festival. As a result of their willingness to do away with mainstreamism and celebrate the independent spirit, their event, “The Fringe”, quickly earned the respect of artists around the world, and in the 60-plus years since then, the Fringe Festival has become the most popular arts movement of all time. The celebration of new sources of creativity, perpetually supporting new talents, and a free and open culture are the most significant aspects of Fringe's widespread development. From 2008 and onward, “Taipei Fringe Festival”, in accordance with its open and welcoming philosophy, has held non-juried admissions processes where applications are neither judged nor rejected. Daring to sign up is all that's needed to become an artist in this outstanding new domain. Because performances vary greatly in both content and presentation, there are many surprises to be had in admiring the various exhibitions of the Festival. Audience members through their attendance and support of all kinds of new performance concepts become integral members of the community and together with the artists define the courageous independent spirit that unites the festival. Taipei Fringe Festival, on the basis of fueling society's collective energy, continues to pursue the route of offering non-traditional venues that will inspire and excite performer's creative abilities while simultaneously provoking art in a way that penetrates all strata of society. This year many new venues are situated within Taipei's more residential neighborhoods, surrounded by complex networks of intersecting alleys and lanes. Pass the outdoor vegetable market, circumnavigate several small alleys, climb a small hill, walk to the riverside; Taipei Fringe Festival's scope extends to the city limits! Utilizing such a multi-faceted collection of venues works to expand our creative limits, thus increasing the appeal of the festival. While we don't provide any production funding, all participating artists keep 100% of their ticket sales revenue. In order to increase the convenience of buying tickets for our audiences, artists will all be using the same ticketing system, which also provides more opportunities for cooperation between artists. 2018's 11th Annual Taipei Fringe Festival will be staged between August 4th and August 19th. We are looking forward to the lustrous displays of creativity each artist will bring to the stage: Giving it all they've got and exhaustively filling Taipei's far corners with their artistic creations.Source: http://www.fringefestival.taipei/",
