Mayor Convenes Public Safety Supervisory Meeting
Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-Je convened the public safety supervisory meeting in the afternoon of December 25, where he listened to the Office of Commerce explain the comprehensive evaluation mechanism for business registration and business venues. Starting from January 1, 2020, the digital business venue evaluation of business venues will be implemented, reducing the required working days from 8 to 2. He noted that the principle of digitization will be applied to all the processes as much as possible; even if it is required by the law to approach the service counter in person, a comprehensive online booking system must be in place for the public's convenience.
The Department of Social Welfare (DSW) reported in the meeting that of the 7 self-immolation incidents over the last 3 years, where 2 of the events were reported suicide prevention cases, and one of them was already receiving social welfare assistance, placement and financial aid. After listening to the briefing, Ko commented that in the future the social security network should be able to prevent such incidents and he demanded the DSW come up with solutions for resolving and intervening suicides.
Furthermore, in regards to the Labor Inspection Office (LIO)'s report on occupational accident-related fatalities, Ko pointed out that the number of deaths resulted from falls account for half of the total fatalities, so he has requested the city government's colleagues to contemplate whether it is time to engage in communication with industrial unions because compensation is required for every occupational accident that has occurred. The LIO was asked to consider the feasibility of purchasing relevant protective equipment and organizing the necessary education and training by communicating with key industry players.
As for the legislative briefing on the Department of Labor's Taipei Municipal Self-Government Ordinance for the Management of Food Delivery Service Providers (Draft) and Guidelines for Assisting Food Delivery Service Providers in Taipei, Ko commented that the city government has demonstrated quick law-making process, and it should keep up the good work.
At the end of the meeting, the mayor reiterated that resolving small problems on a daily basis will result in less stress since the accumulation of small problems will amount to daunting challenges.
