DOED Holds Energy Saving and Zero Carbon Innovative Life Forum
In the face of exacerbating climate change in Taiwan, in order to facilitate the enterprises in promoting green, sustainable energy, the Department of Economic Development (DOED), Taiwan Tesla Motors Limited, Taipei Fubon Commercial Bank, and Domi Earth have joined forces to host the Energy Saving and Zero Carbon Innovative Life Forum today (July 18), hoping to promote energy conservation and zero-carbon through public-private partnership.
Through the forum, the aim is to let the city’s SMEs and relevant industry groups gain insight into the various dimensions of energy-saving and zero-carbon lifestyle, as well as how to create an innovative and sustainable business model. At the same time, more enterprises will be drawn to invest in energy conservation and sustainable environment-related development, in turn engendering a zero-carbon lifestyle.
According to DOED, in light of responding to environmental changes and reinforcing residential safety in the city, Taipei City Government is in the process of formulating the Circular Taipei Implementation Plan; focusing on the guiding principle of energy conservation and carbon reduction, the rooftop greening rate is increased along with the mitigation of the city’s heat island effect by encouraging schools to install heat-insulating green rooftops and conduct farming education. Moreover, the concept of farm city on public building rooftops is promoted to achieve the goal of reducing GHG and saving energy.
Additionally, to improve energy efficiency among industrial and business sectors, as well as to promote green energy, policies such as “Subsidy for the Replacement of Obsolete Energy-saving Equipment with Smart Energy-saving Systems by the Service Industry in Taipei City” and “Regulations for the Installation and Use of Solar Power Equipment in Public Buildings and Lands in Taipei City” have been implemented, hoping to advance energy-saving and carbon reduction through concerted efforts between the private industrial/business sector and the public sector, thereby turning Taipei City into a magnificent, livable metropolis.
In the forum, Taiwan Tesla Motors Limited General Manager Yvonne mentioned that the company is the purveyor of high-tech, stylish, and energy-saving vehicles to the public, allowing them to achieve the target of energy conservation and zero carbon emissions. Furthermore, Tesla’s sophisticated energy storage system minimizes reliance on the electrical grid and expedites the process of reaching the zero-carbon milestone. Taipei Fubon Bank Executive VP Chen En-kuang suggested that one of the ways to mitigate energy depletion is by allowing the public to participate in “private power plants” that generate renewable energy. Enterprises can also utilize their resources to invest in renewable energy so that they are no longer only consumers of electricity but producers as well. In doing so, they can contribute to environmental protection while making a profit. Lien Ting-kai, the co-founder of Domi Earth, a green energy company that focuses on innovative energy conservation, stated that by applying existing technology to lower the energy burden of enterprises and increase energy efficiency, as well as integrating energy conservation education into enterprises and families, they will be able to find people who are willing to work hand in hand in accelerating the realization of a zero-carbon lifestyle.
The event has attracted the participation of nearly 80 company representatives. After the forum, the interactive participation approach allowed the guests to understand the operation of various energy-saving solutions, and they were invited to visit the EV Experience Center in the park. Through the proactive engagement of different industries, it is hoped to offer the society more comprehensive and innovative solutions to materialize a wide range of zero-carbon lifestyles, so that corporate profitability and environmental sustainability can co-exist in harmony and engender a win-win situation.
