MRT Circular Line’s Accumulated Ridership Exceeds One Million – Fare Collection Commences March 1
Since the opening of the circular line, the accumulated ridership has surpassed the one million mark, and fare collection will officially begin on March 1 by applying the same fare structure as existing networks. At the same time, passengers transferring from MRT to bus and YouBike within one hour will also enjoy the same transfer discounts.
Passengers are reminded that transfers from the circular line (MRT Banqiao Station, MRT Xinpu Minsheng Station) to Bannan Line (MRT Banqiao Station, MRT Xinpu Station) are conducted outside of the station, so passengers with single-journey tickets should utilize the yellow transfer gate to exit the station. Passengers holding electronic tickets may exit via any gate and complete the transfer within 20 minutes, and they will be deemed to have transferred within the same station and their mileage will be consolidated.
Since the circular line services 14 stations across 4 administrative districts in New Taipei City including Xindian, Zhonghe, Banqiao, and Xinzhuang, it is able to reduce commuting fares, time and distance for commuters. For example, after the circular line was opened, the fare of New Taipei citizens traveling from Banqiao to Touqianzhuang significantly decreased from NT$40 to NT$20 – equivalent to half price. Additionally, Zhonghe residents traveling to Banqiao no longer need to make the transfer in downtown Taipei, thereby saving considerable commuting time.
After the new MRT line commences fare collection, frequent rider discounts will also apply to commuters, students, and MRT frequent riders. The ride frequency can be accumulated, and they may receive up to 30% cash rebates (equivalent to 30% discount), meaning that the more frequently they ride the MRT trains, the more cash rebates they will receive. Alternatively, passengers may choose the long-distance 1280 All Pass Ticket depending on their ride distance and frequency.
