Police Holds Anti-fraud, Traffic Safety Campaign at Longshan Temple’s 280th Anniversary
November 27 coincides with the 280th anniversary of Bangka Longshan Temple, and police officers from Wanhua Precinct turned out to celebrate the special occasion. Moreover, the precinct also dispatched a squad of police big head dolls to promote policies on anti-fraud, anti-drug, and road safety with handheld signs and by distributing promotional materials amid a lively atmosphere.
In light of Taiwan’s aging society, Wanhua Precinct visited Longshan Temple to promote anti-fraud and anti-drug awareness to the public to minimize the chance of the victimization of citizens within its jurisdiction and to raise the awareness of common scamming techniques among senior citizens such as pretending to be their friends and relatives or impersonating government officials. Another common ploy is to trick senior citizens into believing that they have to cancel a non-existent installment payment via the ATM. Besides the anti-fraud campaign, in an effort to prevent drugs from compromising people’s physical and mental wellbeing, Wanhua Precinct also informed the audience how drugs can harm their health, hoping to establish the appropriate anti-drug awareness among the public.
Wanhua Precinct cares about people’s road safety, therefore it has conducted safety campaigns targeting the most common causes of accidents in its jurisdiction including failure to keep a safe distance, failure to abide by traffic signs, traffic markings, and traffic lights, as well as failure to yield according to regulations and driving under the influence, etc.
The police officers remind citizens to heed the following regulations: yield, obey traffic signs, traffic markings, and traffic lights, maintain a safe distance, and never drive under the influence. Furthermore, it is imperative that cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians maintain a safe distance from large vehicles to avoid getting caught in their blind spot and swept path. The ultimate objective is to prevent accidents from occurring, since observing safety is the only way home.
Wanhua Precinct reiterates the importance of anti-fraud and anti-drug awareness. Anti-fraud: In order to prevent fraud, call the 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline when you receive suspicious phone calls or text messages; anti-drug: remain firm, be courageous and say no to the temptations of drugs. In order to minimize accident-related casualties, law enforcement efforts will be stepped up regarding major offenses such as driving under the influence, running a red light, and not complying with traffic signs, traffic markings, and traffic lights. The precinct also stresses that the best approach to protecting one’s life and properties is by obeying traffic rules.
