Mayor, Deputy Mayor Visit Wanda Fruits and Fish Wholesale Market

Mayor and Deputy Mayor at the Wanda Wholesale MarketWith Chinese New Year right around the corner, Mayor Ko Wen-je joined Deputy Mayor Huang Shan-shan on a visit to the Wanda Fruits and Fish Wholesale Market on February 4. They took the opportunity to wish the vendors health and prosperity in the Year of the Ox.

Ko and Huang were greeted passionately by the vendors of the market. They offered the mayor and deputy mayor bundles of scallion and cabbages, while other vendors asked for autographs. The representatives of the Fishery Association and Vegetables Association also presented the city officials with fish and white radish, which symbolize abundance and good omen.

During his address, the mayor noted that Chinese New Year is only a few days away. Seeing how hard the vendors work to provide the best food and cooking ingredients for residents, Ko said he would like to express his gratitude on behalf of the citizens of Taipei.

Noting how everyone suffered under COVID-19 over the past year, the mayor stressed that he believes things will start getting better in another six months. Therefore, he requests everyone to continue to observe the government's pandemic prevention guidelines in wearing face mask and washing hands.

With the ongoing overhaul of the market, the mayor is concerned that the construction might affect the vendors. Throughout the visit, he asked the staff of Market Administration Office and the representatives of the market's self-governing association about the details. He promised that the city government will do its best to minimize the inconveniences vendors face in their day-to-day business during this period.
