Taipei New Construction Office’s architectural design earns recognition once again! Taipei City Vocational Development Institute redevelopment project wins at the 34th Chinese Golden Stone Award for Architecture!
The New Construction Office, Public Works Department, Taipei City Government has earned recognition once again! The “Redevelopment Project for the Former Machinery Building and Student Dormitory Site of Taipei City Vocational Development Institute”, undertaken by the New Construction Office, won the “Golden Stone Award in the Planning Category for Excellent Public Construction” at the 34th Chinese Golden Stone Award for Architecture ceremony yesterday (3), highlighting the Office’s strong results in public building planning and design. The New Construction Office said the project is divided into three parts: the “New Vocational Training Building” on the north side, and the “Vocational Experience and Continuing Education Hall” and “University of Taipei Dormitory” on the south side. The design concept brings the greenery of the Yangmingshan mountain range east of the site into the campus. By setting the buildings back to create a corner plaza and open spaces, the project forms an urban green corridor that is both practical and sustainable. The New Construction Office explained that the “New Vocational Training Building” is vertically organized by vocational training category. Outdoor colorful staircases and open, transparent large balconies make the building space more inviting, create a distinctive architectural character, and reflect the diverse, open, and inclusive spirit of Taipei City Vocational Development Institute. The floors of the “Vocational Experience and Continuing Education Hall” connect multi-level open spaces with direct outdoor stairways. Its fair-faced concrete exterior echoes the low-saturation facade of the neighboring teaching building, giving it a friendly, understated, and composed character. The balconies in each unit of the “University of Taipei Dormitory” extend the indoor space into semi-outdoor areas, creating green spaces for interaction and exchange. In addition, the stepped-back design on the east side of the building allows students to look out toward Yangmingshan and enjoy the beauty of nature. The New Construction Office noted that once completed, the project will provide Taipei City Vocational Development Institute with a more complete training environment. It will become an ideal place for Taipei to train students, strengthen their employment competitiveness, and promote a wide range of skills, creating a new public space that combines empowerment, learning, daily life, and sustainability.
