Mayor: Xinyi Line to Provide Services November 24

Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced the opening of the much-anticipated MRT Xinyi Line on November 18 during a tree-planting ceremony on Xinyi Road. The new line will start operations on November 24.

To celebrate the milestone and to get passengers familiar with the new line, the mayor encouraged residents to take the MRT and enjoy month-long discounts on fares for designated routes.

Details on the preferential program running between November 24 (Sunday) and December 23 (Monday) are as follows:
a)
No fare will be charged for travel between CKS and Xiangshan stations of the new Xinyi Line. Fares still apply for those entering or exiting stations outside the aforementioned stations.

b) The 30% discount applies to passengers satisfying both of the following criteria: 1) entering/leaving from one of the following stations (Zhonghe Line, Taipower Building Station, and Guting Station) and 2) the other end of travel takes place at any of the following stations (NTU Hospital, Taipei Main Station, Zhongshan, Shuanglian, Minquan W. Rd., Yuanshan, Jiantan, Shilin, Zhishan, Mingde, Shipai, Qilian, Qiyan, Beitou, and Xinbeitou).

Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation reminds the public that only passengers using EasyCard are entitled to the deals. The measure is expected to benefit an estimated 10 million riders.

Hau expressed his gratitude to residents and shop owners living or doing business along Xinyi Line for their cooperation during its construction spanning seven years and 11 months. With the addition of the new route, he believes the crowdedness seen at MRT stations along Bannan Line on every New Year’s Eve will be effectively alleviated.
