Yishou Bridge Bicycle Accessway Completed
The Hydraulic Engineering Office (HEO) has constructed a bicycle accessway on the Laoquan Street side of Yishou Bridge. At the same time, projects including the expansion of the flood barrier road of Laoquan Street and embankment decoration were completed, providing the public with a more convenient, comfortable and aesthetic road environment.
Yishou Bridge in Wenshan District is a footbridge spanning across Jingmei River, connecting Zhangxin Village and Laoquan Village, making it an important route for local residents traveling between both banks of Jingmei River.
According to the HEO, in the past the Laoquan Street side of Yishou Bridge intertwined with the Laoquan Street flood barrier road, therefore if people want to travel from the right bank to the left bank of Jingmei River, they had to circle around and cross the road in order to do so.
Furthermore, the south mountainside near the intersection of Laoquan Street and Baogao Road is obstructive to traffic and prone to traffic accidents, therefore the HEO subcontracted 2 design and engineering projects last year, namely “Left Bank of Jingmei River, Yishou Bridge Downstream Laoquan Street Traffic Bottleneck Expansion and Improvement Project”, and “Jingmei River, Yishou Bridge Surrounding Facility and Landscaping Project”. Both projects are now completed and are expected to enhance pedestrian convenience and safety significantly.
The HEO suggested that flocks of Taiwan Blue Magpies are often seen flying in formation in the vicinity of Yishou Bridge. The elegant colors and graceful demeanor of the birds have become extremely popular among the public, therefore the Taiwan Blue Magpie has become the source of inspiration for designing the embankment decorations. The incorporation of such localized design elements and imagery in conjunction with the meandering Jingmei River and the expansive riverside park serves to highlight the abundant ecological landscape of Wenshan District.
