Press Conference for the 2024 National Day Flag-Raising and Celebration Events “Run with the Dragon: Taipei Cheers for Double Ten” – Supporting the World Masters Games 2025 Taipei & New Taipei City with a Jogging Online Registration Open from September 26 to October 3; Entry Draw Results Announced on October 7 Celebrate Taiwan’s Birthday Together!

In celebration of the 113th National Day of the Republic of China, the Taipei City Government’s Department of Civil Affairs held a press conference today (September 26) to announce the “113th National Day Flag-Raising and Celebration Series of Events.” The event began with a lively performance by the Fu Jen Catholic University cheerleading team, followed by Deputy Mayor Lin Yi-Hua and Department of Civil Affairs Commissioner Chen Yung-Te unveiling this year’s theme, “Run with the Dragon: Taipei Cheers for Double Ten,” officially kicking off the National Day celebrations and encouraging citizens to join the run for better health!

This year, the Taipei City Government’s National Day celebration will feature a flag-raising ceremony, national anthem singing, and special performances. In addition, the public is invited to join a National Day jogging to promote a healthy lifestyle. Mayor Chiang Wan-An and commissioners of city departments will lead the citizens in a morning run starting in front of the Taipei City Hall. The course will circle the City Hall building (following Shifu Road, Songgao Road, Songzhi Road, and Songshou Road) three times. After completing the run, participants can redeem their race wristbands for a special “National Day Limited Edition Sports Towel.” Citizens are also encouraged to join the celebration by wearing clothing and accessories featuring the national flag design to add to the festive and joyous atmosphere of National Day!

In addition to the chance to run alongside Mayor Chiang Wan-an, this year’s National Day event has an upgraded stage performance. Starting at 7:00 AM, the Wei Chuan Dragons cheerleading squad will bring explosive cheer routines and warm-up exercises to the event. They will also serve as special guests to kick off the run with the official starting shot, offering the strongest support to all participants. Joining the cheerleading squad will be “Strong,” the adorable mascot of the World Masters Games 2025 Taipei & New Taipei City, and Taipei City’s beloved bear mascot “Bravo,” making for an exciting “trio” of highlights at this year’s National Day event.

This year’s National Day market will collaborate with the Taipei City’s “Hangout Market” brand, offering food and cultural items to enjoy after the flag-raising ceremony and jogging. The market will feature 20 vendors, including breakfast, desserts, drinks, and creative items. Furthermore, in support of the World Masters Games 2025 Taipei & New Taipei City, the market will also include a sports experience booth. Participants can complete the experience to collect stamps and win a limited-edition prize. The entrance will also showcase a brand-new National Day morning market display, offering a perfect backdrop for photos.

According to the Department of Civil Affairs, the jogging will operate on a “entry lottery draw registration and on-site check-in” system. From 2:00 PM on September 26 to 12:00 PM on October 3, citizens can register for the jogging entry draw on the Latest News section of the Department of Civil Affairs website. The system will randomly select 3,500 lucky participants, with the list published on October 7 at 2:00 PM. Winners will be notified via SMS and email.

Winners must check in at the designated QR code station on National Day (October 10) between 6:30 AM and 7:30 AM. After scanning their QR codes and being verified, they will receive wristbands to join the flag-raising and jogging. Upon completion, participants can exchange their wristbands for a “National Day Limited Edition Sports Towel.” Late arrivals after 7:30 AM on October 10 (Thursday) will forfeit their spots. For any questions, please contact the National Day Campaign Team at 02-5576-0528 (Ms. Yang).

The Department of Civil Affairs reminds the public that traffic control will be in effect around Taipei City Hall from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM on October 10. Roads affected include the entire section of Shifu Road between Songgao and Songshou, as well as parts of Songgao, Songzhi, and Songshou roads. Citizens are encouraged to take public transportation, such as the MRT, to avoid congestion.
