Mountain Cleanup Hike & Disaster Prevention Event
The 2nd District Headquarters of the Taipei City Fire Department and Songshan Tsu Huei Temple jointly hold a disaster prevention event at Songshan Tsu Huei Temple Square (No. 33, Lane 251, Fude Street, Xinyi District) on Saturday, April 12 from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Citizens are invited to explore nature, experience the ecological environment and enhance their disaster preparedness. This event will feature a variety of fun and educational experience booths. Including “VR Evacuation and Escape Challenge (Virtual Reality Experience)” a virtual reality simulation where participants explore a household environment and identify potential causes of electrical fires, “Home safety 1216 Interactive Experience” a giant evacuation map where both adults and children can learn to create their own home evacuation plans. Participants who download the “Taipei City Disaster Prevention App” at the event will also have the chance to enter a lucky draw and win exciting prizes. On March 28, 2025, a magnitude-7.7 earthquake struck Myanmar, causing severe damage. Several earthquakes have also recently been felt in Taiwan. The Fire Department stated that most injuries were caused by furniture overturning, falling objects, and sharp objects. During the shaking, people moving in panic without seeking shelter behind sturdy objects faced a higher risk of injury. Therefore, the Fire Department urges the public to immediately take the "drop, cover, and hold on" action during earthquakes, take cover under a table or next to an interior wall, and protect the head and neck with tables or sturdy objects to avoid injury from moving or falling objects. Additionally, after the earthquake has stopped, it is essential to promptly ensure the safety of surrounding family and friends and check if gas and fire sources at home are turned off to prevent fires and exacerbation of secondary disasters. Additionally, the Fire Department would like to express its gratitude to Songshan Tsu Huei Temple in this event for their continuous support and generous donations for fire prevention and disaster safety in the city. Over the years, they have donated 38,200 smoke alarms to the city, which have successfully activated 844 times in emergencies over the years. They have also donated 30 ambulances and 9 emergency response vehicles, successfully saving citizens' lives and property. Disaster prevention starts with small actions, and we hope this engaging event will provide valuable knowledge for all participants. We warmly invite all citizens to join and participate enthusiastically. Taipei City has won the top spot in the "2024 County and City Overall and Sustainable Competitiveness Survey" by Global Views Monthly for the fourth consecutive time, and ranked first among the six metropolitan cities in "Public Safety and Firefighting," reflecting outstanding achievements in disaster prevention education. These accomplishments are rooted in meticulous attention to detail and consistent public engagement. The Fire Department hopes all citizens will seize this opportunity to strengthen their disaster preparedness knowledge. We warmly welcome everyone to take part in this meaningful and educational event.
