Results of the 2nd Taipei City Bus Service Evaluation in 2014 disclosed
The Taipei Public Transportation Office announced the results of the 2nd Taipei City Bus Service Evaluation in 2014. A total of 4 bus companies, including Capital Bus, Taipei Bus, Danan Bus and Metropolitan Transport, were rated excellent. Apart from Zhongxing Bus, Sindian Bus and Southeast Bus were rated grade B, the remaining 8 bus companies obtained grade A. The Tamshui Bus Company only took part in the evaluation, but it was not rated as it only owned a small number of buses.
The evaluation consisted of four main sections, under which were 26 indexes. The four sections included “Terminal facility and service”, “Transport facility and safety”, “Passenger service quality and driver management” and “Company operation and management”. Bus companies that were rated excellent were awarded publicly on March 27, 2015 by the Taipei City Government. Those that were rated grade B will be put under inspections and guidance with the purpose to raise their service quality for further refinement of the whole bus service quality.
The Taipei Public Transportation Office will re-design bus routes based on the types of transportation used by passengers such as combining repeated bus routes, and eliminating the bus routes with unscheduled service or non-efficient and long-distant inter-city bus routes. They will be replaced with short-distant, scheduled and frequent bus service. By adjusting and combining bus routes, it will be attempted to increase the average number of passenger every bus, the income of bus companies and reduce bus drivers’ work load. The ultimate goal will be to lift up the usage rate of public transportation.
Taipei City had become an international city so an important indicator of that was to provide first class public transportation and high service quality. When the public transportation network had been completed, high quality service became even more important. The bus evaluation was expected to help us further find out where require corrections and improvement, and strength operation and management so as everyone could have safe, speedy and comfortable public transportation service.
