【Taipei City Animal Protection Office Press Release】 Issuing Unit: Animal Management Division Date of Issue: September 8, 2026 Time of Issue: 14:30 Contact Person: Chen Wei-Lun, Division Chief Contact No.: (02) 8789-7129, 0975663050 Taipei City Subsidies for Pet Dog and Cat Neutering and Pet Insurance Still Available! Last Chance Before Year-End—Apply Now! To encourage pet registration and rabies vaccination this year (2026), the Taipei City Animal Protection Office has raised the pet dog and cat neutering subsidy to up to NT$2,000 and expanded pet insurance subsidies up to NT$3,000 for non-adopted pets. As of the end of August, neutering subsidy quotas remains available, while pet insurance subsidies are now limited to pets adopted from the Taipei Animal Shelter. Eligible owners are urged to apply promptly with the Office or submit applications online via Taipei Service before quotas run out. The Animal Protection Office noted that due to higher subsidy amounts this year, pet dog and cat neutering applications have surged, with funds expected to be used up by late November. With limited quotas remaining, owners are urged to have their pets neutered and apply without delay. The public are reminded that the Animal Protection Act requires pet owners to complete pet registration and neutering. To be eligible for this year’s pet dog and cat neutering subsidy, or the pet insurance subsidy for animals adopted from the Taipei Animal Shelter, owners must also complete pet registration and a rabies vaccination within the past year to support disease prevention. The Animal Protection Office added that rabies is a zoonotic disease with a fatality rate near 100% once clinical signs appear. Although nationwide regulations have exempted strictly indoor cats from mandatory annual rabies vaccination, provided they are kept in secure carriers without physical exposure or risk of escape when outdoors, domestic cats remain a designated species required to be vaccinated under the Act on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Animal Diseases. Owners wishing to administer booster shots may use the Office’s annual free rabies vaccination services held in cooperation with the private sector.
