Taipei City Again Earns Excellence Ratings in Central Government Evaluations for Road Maintenance Management and Common Duct Construction
The Ministry of the Interior recently held the award ceremony and seminar for the 2025 “Urban Road Maintenance Management and Pedestrian Accessibility Evaluation Program,” the 2024 and 2025 “Supervision Plan of Barrier-free Environments for Urban Park,” and the 2025 “Common Duct Construction Evaluation Program” at the GIS MOTC Convention Center, and the Taipei City Government, led by Deputy Mayor Wen-Te Chang, attended the event and received the awards together with relevant personnel from the Public Works Department and the Transportation Department. Taipei City Government not only received the Excellence rating for its overall results in both the nationwide Urban Road Maintenance Management and Pedestrian Environment Accessibility Evaluation Program (Special Municipality group) and the Common Duct Construction Evaluation Program, but also ranked first in the Special Municipality group in the subcategories of “Policy Evaluation,” “Road Maintenance,” “Transportation Engineering,” “Street Layout Evaluation,” and “School Zone Evaluation.” In addition, Village Chief Su-chin Lin of Xingya Village and Village Chief Tsung-Chieh Fang of Dunhou Village in Xinyi District, Taipei City were also presented with the People-Oriented Environment Improvement Contribution Award. Director Kun-Hu Lin of the New Construction Office, Public Works Department, Taipei City Government, stated that, as the nation’s capital city, Taipei actively aligns each year with central government policies to improve its roads and pedestrian environment. He also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of the Interior and the evaluation committee members for their guidance and support over the years, which has enabled the Taipei City Government to continuously improve from policy planning to implementation. In addition to ongoing efforts to improve the smoothness of roadways and sidewalks, create barrier-free spaces in the pedestrian environment, and advance common duct construction, Taipei has also actively developed a range of innovative initiatives to enhance overall road quality, such as introducing performance-based contracts for road patrol inspection and maintenance, establishing a visualized management system for roads and ancillary facilities, and implementing a sidewalk clear-width improvement program, among other innovative and smart management measures, with the aim of continuously improving Taipei’s road quality. When it comes to enhancing road quality, there is no “best,” only “better.” Section Chief Hsuan-Tung Chu of the Utilities Conduit Planning Section, the New Construction Office, Public Works Department, Taipei City Government, explained that in addition to continuing people-oriented environment improvement projects such as the Zhongxiao East Road Pedestrian Environment Improvement Project and the Da'an Road pedestrian environment improvement work, the Office is also carrying out road and sidewalk improvement efforts in line with the “Pedestrian Safety in Taipei Plan” established by the Department of Transportation, Taipei City Government, thereby gradually creating a barrier-free, people-oriented environment in the city. These outcomes have also been recognized by residents, the Ministry of the Interior, and members of the evaluation committee and Taipei City will continue to strive for further progress and renewed efforts to provide the public with a people-oriented, resilient, and sustainable mobility environment.
