An Effortless Suburban Getaway: A Hiking Guide to Yangmingshan
As the season of the Start of Autumn arrives, the summer heat has not yet fully subsided. If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a while, why not head to Yangmingshan to experience the unique comfort and tranquility of the mountains and forests in early autumn? The Parks Department invites the public to take advantage of this pleasant, crisp autumn weather by taking public transportation to Yangmingshan for a leisurely autumn getaway in the mountains. At Qianshan Park, located next to the bus terminal, a clear stream winds its way through the rocks, gurgling gently and bringing waves of refreshing coolness; the stream flows under Shamao Bridge, where it converges to form the tranquil Yangmingshan Lake. Along the lakeshore, there are long, bench-style seats made of andesite rock where visitors can sit back and enjoy the scenic views of the lake and mountains, listen to the natural symphony woven by the stream and the mountain breeze, admire Penglai Island in the lake, and gaze at the lush, layered peaks of Qixing Mountain in the distance. The clear, flowing water reflects the mountain scenery, creating a serene autumn atmosphere that compels visitors to slow their pace and savor the cool, refreshing moments amidst the mountains and forests. From Qianshan Park, the trail connects to Yangmingshan Park’s “pedestrian-vehicle separated” path, where the intertwining tree shade forms a green corridor. A gentle mountain breeze blows in your face, and the fresh phytoncides instantly soothe both body and mind. Even after the start of autumn, Yangmingshan still retains its summer vitality; as long as you slow your pace and observe carefully along the way, you’ll have the chance to encounter many of the forest’s delicate inhabitants. Among the treetops, flocks of Taiwan blue magpies with their brilliant sapphire-blue wings dart back and forth from time to time; along the streams, the elegant silhouettes and piercing whistles of the Taiwan purple-throated thrush add boundless vitality to the verdant mountains. As you continue along the trail, the serene Xiaoyin Tan Waterfall comes into view. With Yangmingshan’s pleasant and comfortable autumn temperatures, you can relax in a pavilion, listen to the crisp sound of the stream flowing over the rocks, and feel the gentle coolness of the mountain breeze rustling through the treetops—allowing you to temporarily forget the hustle and bustle of the city. The Park Authority reminds visitors that the rocks around the waterfall and along the stream are damp and slippery year-round. When enjoying the scenery, please stay on the trail or within the pavilions, maintain a safe distance from the stream, and watch your step to ensure everyone can enjoy a safe and pleasant time in the mountains. This weekend, why not take a bus from the terminal and leisurely explore Qianshan Park and Yangming Park? Accompanied by the mountain breeze, the babbling brook, and lush greenery, treat yourself to a little autumn getaway!
