Taipei City Government, 5-School Cross-Industry Incubation Alliance Host Gathering to Stimulate Entrepreneurship
Colleges and universities are not only the cradle of talent, but the incubation centers in various schools are also the driving force behind industry-academia collaborations. To let school incubation centers and startups to utilize entrepreneurial resources more efficiently, the Taipei City Government’s Department of Economic Development (DOED) hosted the Shilin and Beitou Startup Incubation and Taipei City Government Startup Resource Gathering at Ming Chuan University with the Taipei City North District 5-School Cross-Industry Incubation Alliance and Ming Chuan University today (September 12) to elaborate on the entrepreneurial resources offered by the government.
During the gathering on September 12, the StartUP@Taipei Office and Project Office of Subsidies & Incentives for Taipei Industry elaborated on various startup-related measures and services. At the same time, they also discussed opinions pertaining to the future developments of Beitou-Shilin Technology Park with the Taipei City North District 5-School Cross-Industry Incubation Alliance and local startup teams.
According to the DOED, innovative startups have become an important contributor to economic developments in countries around the world, so besides forming the StartUP@Taipei one-stop counter to offer startup consultation, industry expert guidance and multiple pitch and match events, there is also the Project of Subsidies and Incentives for Taipei Industry, which provides comprehensive incentive and subsidy resources. In addition, cooperation has been made with financial institutions to offer low-interest loans.
Hi-Tech Promotion Center Director Hsu commented during the gathering that, in light of the industry development trends and in combination with the resources of the surrounding areas, Beitou-Shilin Technology Park’s high-tech industry area will be centered on the themes of smart healthcare and digital technology services, introducing the city’s advantageous industries and other related emerging industries such as biotechnology, digital medical care, and information and communications. The aim is to attract more industries to enter Beitou-Shilin Technology Park and bolster overall industry development.
Taipei City North District 5-School Cross-Industry Incubation Alliance comprises 5 organizations including Ming Chuan University, National Yang-Ming University, Tatung University, National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences, and Mackay Memorial Hospital. Founded a year ago, the various organizations have demonstrated expertise in the marketing business model, the electronic and machinery industry, and biomedicine and health, integrating the characteristics and management resources of different schools and capitalizing on their convenient geographic advantages. According to representatives from the incubation center, once completed, Beitou-Shilin Technology Park will be able to provide businesses with the strongest support from the industry and the academia.
Local startups from Shilin and Beitou including Fuli Information Co., Ltd, and Touyuan Culture Co., Ltd. were invited to share their successful experiences in applying for subsidies and incentives for Taipei industry. Fuli has developed a platform for chronic disease prescription refilling and home delivery to improve senior citizens’ convenience in obtaining prescription medication (such as physical disability, long distances, and time-consuming commutes, etc.) Touyuan Culture’s startup team focuses on local contents in Beitou to develop environmental education courses. Additionally, it established the Beitou Storyteller (members-only club), serving as an information platform to attract young people to participate in the program and help promote environmental protection and cultural affairs in Beitou. Both startups indicate that the subsidies and incentives for Taipei industry allow them to realize their entrepreneurial ambitions, and encourage aspiring startups in Taipei City to take advantage of city government’s resources.
