Back to School Outbreak Prevention Measures – Police Protecting the Safety of School Children
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, high schools and elementary schools in Taiwan postponed their back to school day to February 25, and the usually casual back to school day has been replaced by the tension of disinfecting the children’s hands with rubbing alcohol, wearing masks, and taking temperatures. Moreover, parents will only feel at ease after personally delivering their children to the school, therefore the precinct has also implemented comprehensive traffic management plans around the schools to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety.
In light of a large number of people and cars on back to school day, the precinct has assisted 12 junior high schools and 15 elementary schools within its jurisdiction to implement the necessary outbreak prevention procedures. Children entering schools must have their body temperature measured, hence police officers have been dispatched to reinforce patrols, traffic control, and school children security-related efforts at major intersections near schools with students waiting in line to receive body temperature measurements.
The director and assistant director of various precincts will work hand in hand with fellow police officers to carry out traffic control, traffic condition monitoring operations and clamp downs on violations. In total, 40 police officers will be dispatched to maintain queuing order at the respective schools and smooth traffic flow on nearby roads. Furthermore, the precinct has also set aside police resources in response to the inauguration of a new building at Yanping High School.
Unlike previous back to school days, this year involves taking the students’ body temperatures at the school entrances. The parents’ affection for their children is beyond words, and many of them choose to wait outside the school and only leave after making sure that everything is all right with their children; it is believed that the same sentiment is shared by many parents. Seeing the diligence of police officers in directing traffic and upholding order, most of the school staff and parents all commended their proactive attitude, and some of them even approached the police officers to offer their appreciation and acknowledgment!
Daan Police Precinct would like to remind the public that outbreak prevention measures are important, but self-management is even more crucial; traffic regulations are necessary but self-discipline is more important; combating outbreak safely is not difficult, remember to implement self-management and wash your hands often; going to school safely is simple, remember to comply with regulations, traffic signs, and do not rush. Everyone is terrified of the outbreak, but traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility, so Daan Police Precinct urges drivers to comply with the instructions of police officers, volunteer traffic controllers, and volunteer crossing guards. Let us keep the parents and school children safe with a loving, caring heart.
