MRT to Allow Pet Strollers onto Trains Throughout 19 Stations on a Trial Basis Starting Jan. 4

Bringing Pet strollers onto the MRT Similar to passengers boarding MRT trains on holidays with their bicycles, Taipei Metro will allow pet strollers onto MRT trains throughout 19 stations along the Tamsui-Xinyi Line (Tamsui Station to Zhongshan Station, including Xinbeitou Station) on a trial basis starting on January 4.

The pet stroller must be smaller than 210cm (length, width, and height combined, measuring only the cabin, excluding the frame and wheels). The trial run will last 6 months, and the eventual outcome will determine whether to expand on the program.

In view of the MRT’s transportation capacity and to protect the rights of other passengers, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation has determined the combined dimension of the stroller (only the cabin, excluding the frame and wheels) -- larger than 175cm and smaller than 210cm -- by taking the measurements of pet strollers available on the market into consideration.

Similar to bringing bicycles on MRT trains during weekends, passengers must purchase the single-journey ticket with a pet stroller (one ticket for one passenger with a pet stroller for an unlimited distance for NT$80). Passengers must access the MRT station via the employee gate. This service is only available during the weekends (Tamsui-Xinyi Line, Tamsui Station to Zhongshan Station, including Xinbeitou Station), at a total of 19 stations. Passengers with pet strollers may only use the first and last carriage of the train.

Moreover, pet strollers with a combined dimension of less than 175cm (only the cabin, excluding the frame and wheels) but exceeding the limitations of length (55cm), width (45cm), and height (40cm), may also board the train at the 19 stations along the MRT Tamsui-Xinyi Line during the weekends via the accessible ticket gate without separate tickets. Passengers with pet strollers may only use the first and last carriage of the train.

As for pet strollers, carriers, small cages, or containers with dimensions smaller than 55cm x 45cm x 40cm (L x W x H, only measuring the cabin, excluding the frame and wheels), they are considered general luggage and no separate tickets are required. Passengers with the aforementioned pet accessories are not subject to restrictions such as time, station, ticket gate, or carriage.
