Calling for Submissions: The Spirit of Taipei Photo Essay Contest
Many people refer to Paris as a romantic city; Milan as a fashion city; New York as the Big Apple; and Hong Kong as the shoppers’ paradise. If someone mentions Taipei, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?
Taipei City Government Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) is holding the “2015 The Spirit of Taipei Photo Essay Contest” to invite the public to share their views on Taipei’s unique characteristics.
A number of celebrities also shared their thoughts about Taipei. Singer Cheer Chen thinks that Taipei is a city that is accommodating and one that is constantly evolving. Actress Chung Hsin-ling (also known as Pink Pig), who recently received the Golden Bell Awards, noted that Taipei residents protect animals; yield to senior citizens, women, disabled people, and young children; and care for persons in need. She describes Taipei is a “heart-warming and life-respecting city”.
TPEDOIT commissioner Chien Yu-yen noted that there are many visages of Taipei waiting to be discovered. She encourages the public to share their take on the “Spirit of Taipei”.
To participate, individuals will need to submit a sentence with a photo to express your take on the “Spirit of Taipei”. Attach a short paragraph (up to 300 words) to convey your idea. The top prize is NT$30,000 and winner will work with a professional design team to help design the logo for the Spirit of Taipei.
The deadline for submissions is April 12.
Between May 7 and 28, the public will have a chance to vote for the best entry via the online voting system “i-Voting.” Those casting their votes will be eligible for a raffle offering prizes such as iPad mini 3 and portable battery charger.
