The Zoo's Night Openings Celebrate 20 Years: Sharing Exclusive Memories in the Time Corridor
Have you ever been part of those special summer nights at the zoo? Since 2006, Taipei Zoo has extended its opening hours on Saturdays during the summer vacation, allowing visitors to experience the unique atmosphere of the zoo after dark and observe how animals behave in the evening. Over the years, these summer night openings have accompanied generations of visitors through countless memorable summers, and in 2026, the program proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary. To mark this meaningful milestone, Taipei Zoo invites visitors to revisit their photo albums and share cherished memories from past summer night openings. Whether it is a family night visit, the excitement of observing animals after sunset, moonlit views of the zoo, or snapshots from the long-running Summer Night Safari events, we welcome your submissions. Selected photos will be displayed in the Time Corridor exhibition at the Children's Zoo as part of this summer's special 20th Anniversary Exhibition. (Submission period: now through June 15. Please visit the event page for the submission link. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdBbhdWbqPSfgkI20cSFcADAayx0OFlYsldjuzIC7IDDO0BOw/viewform?pli=1) To provide a cooler and more comfortable recreational experience during the increasingly hot summer season, Taipei Zoo launched the Carnival – ICE Zoo series in 2006 and, for the first time, extended its opening hours until 9:00 p.m. on summer Saturdays. Beginning in 2008, the annual summer night-opening program adopted the theme Summer Night Safari, introducing a different focus each year. Over the years, themes have covered animal behavior and ecology, wildlife conservation, environmental action, and energy issues. Activities have included Keeper's Talk, Wildlife Conservation Market, Wildlife Conservation Theater, stage competitions, outdoor night movies, and animal-themed exercise sessions. For more than a decade, Summer Night Safari has become a highly anticipated summer tradition, attracting visitors eager to spend their Saturday evenings at the zoo. Following the success of Night FUN Adventure at the Zoo in 2024 and Cool Summer with the Animals in 2025, Taipei Zoo continues to offer exclusive nighttime experiences that allow visitors to enjoy an experience that is distinctly different from a daytime visit. To celebrate the 20th anniversary in 2026, the zoo will extend its opening hours until 9:00 p.m. on nine Saturdays throughout July and August. Stay tuned for this year's exciting lineup of activities. Taipei Zoo would also like to remind visitors that its annual temporary closure period is approaching. In 2026, the zoo will be closed to the public from June 22 through July 1, for a total of 10 days. Visitors are reminded to avoid planning trips during this period. During the closure, major maintenance and renovation projects will be carried out throughout the zoo. By concentrating construction work into a short period, the zoo can minimize disturbance to the animals while improving visitor facilities and exhibit environments. We look forward to welcoming everyone back during the summer vacation with an even better zoo experience.
