Largest Sea of Flowers Debuts by Taipei’s Riverside – Blossoming Sunflowers at Meiti
The sea of flowers at Meiti Riverside has become the latest hip location for photography enthusiasts! The sunflowers at Meiti are in full bloom, while zinnia elegans and garden cosmos will also blossom soon. The sea of flowers covers an area of 1.32 hectares, setting a new record as the largest sea of flowers by the riverside in Taipei City. The flowering season begins now until early November, so flower enthusiasts should seize the opportunity to visit the sea of flowers!
According to the Hydraulic Engineering Office (HEO), the sea of garden cosmos flowers at Meiti last year proved well-received. Since the riverside boasts a view of the stunning skyline, the HEO has therefore expanded the sea of flowers this year, making it the largest sea of flowers in any single riverside park in Taipei City over the years (approximately 13,133m2), equivalent to the size of 31 basketball courts. The flowery scenery by the softball field of Meiti Riverside Park forms a dreamlike landscape.
With flowers at Meiti Riverside Park in full bloom, the sunflowers have proven to be the most popular. The magnificent golden sea of flowers forms a stark contrast with the infinite azure sky, turning Meiti Riverside into an enchanting photography and check-in spot! The HEO River Administration Section indicated that the sunflowers are in full bloom, and citizens wanting to admire the sea of sunflowers in downtown Taipei should do so before the flowering period ends. Besides sunflowers, the HEO has designed different areas for other flowering species such as colorful zinnia elegans, garden cosmos, and marigolds. Currently, about 40% of zinnia elegans, garden cosmos are beginning to blossom, with dainty buds ready to burst into flowers. As the sunlight shines down on the flowers, it creates an explosion of colors that form the exclusive breathtaking view of the riverside. The flowering of sunflowers is followed by zinnia elegans and garden cosmos, and marigolds, creating a sea of flowers that will last until early November, making it the perfect flower-viewing spot for the public in autumn.
The HEO pointed out that there is more than meets the eye at the sea of flowers. Take a closer look at the sea of flowers exhibition area and you will discover unique Torigorou and Fuqiu Chicken Family figures dispersed throughout the flowers eagerly welcoming the visitors. The guests are welcome to take photos with the effervescent chicken families.
Meiti Riverside Park boasts an expansive riverside landscape and a vast stretch of green area, making it the premier destination for family outings and picnics in Taipei City during the holidays. Furthermore, the 2019 Nuit Blanche and Taipei Landscape Public Art Project will be held here in October; as the flowers in the Meiti sea of flowers area sway in the gentle breeze, visitors can also catch a glimpse of aircraft gliding through the sky taking off and landing at Taipei Songshan Airport. If the weather permits, it is possible to see Taipei 101 in the distance.
Additionally, HEO also announced that a small secretive activity will be held at the Meiti sea of flowers in the near future. For more flowering-related information, please refer to the TaipeiHEO Facebook fan page.
